Target spend $75 for 20% off coupon scenario question--gift cards?

Hi all!
Looking through the Target ad, I'm extremely intrigued by the spend $75 and get a 20% off in store coupon deal.

I'm going to Disney World and I have a red card, so I buy Disney Gift cards to pay for my trip.

I'm thinking I will try and buy $75 worth of Disney giftcards online on BF (or $75 worth of something) to get the coupon and then hopefully be able to buy a huge chunk of more gift cards using the 20% off coupon.

Is there any way of knowing what the 20% coupon would exclude?
Thoughts?

MrGreenMan 11-14-2013 10:59 AM

it almost certainly guarantees excluding gift cards, as those are cash value.

doubledomer 11-14-2013 11:46 AM

But Target lets you use your Redcard for 5% of Disney gift cards. (not Target GiftCards). So I'm wondering if it would....

You sure about that? I've tried buying disney gift cards and it didn't take 5% off.

Yes, I have bought almost 2k of Disney gift cards and it does take the 5% off. They are classified as entertainment cards and not gift cards as far as Target is concerned.

To the OP, I'm planning the same scenario, going to WDW as well, so I'm hoping it works as that would save a ton!

I just checked the Disney forums that I frequent and it seems to still be working fine though they are not 100% if it will work with the 20% off coupon or not. It has worked in the past with a 10% mover's coupon, 5% pharmacy rewards and the 5% RedCard though.

imjustagirltoo 11-15-2013 08:03 AM

I don't know about this deal specifically, but most definitely you get 5% on GCs at Target, with the exception of Target GCs. I frequently (like, twice a month) will stop in and grab a Disney GC. We live locally and have passes, so we'll buy a GC before a visit.

I've also been able to use past $$ off coupons on them. I've never been brazen enough to buy just the GCs w/a $ off coupon, but I've made small trinket purchases w/the GCs while using the $$ off coupons without issue.

could you expand on the 10% mover's coupon? I've never heard of that coupon for Target.

Supposedly it comes in the packet you get when you change your address? I don't know, I've never seen one myself. It may be only in certain areas or just recently?

MySD012 11-15-2013 09:31 AM

This 20% exclude Gift Cards.....

But everyone saying Disney Gift Card consider to be Entertainment card? I got to try this with the Red card to see if I get the 5% off before going into BF right after Thanksgiving dinner.

WDWBelle 11-15-2013 10:13 AM

http://slickdeals.net/f/6393634-target-20-off-entire-in-store-purchase-coupons-12-1-12-7-black-friday-handout

That post has a picture of the actual coupon, if anyone is interested in the fine print.

Like previously mentioned, it excludes gift cards but Disney cards are not considered such. Hopefully it works.

imjustagirltoo 11-15-2013 11:26 AM

Just read the terms and I don't think it will work. The Red Card 5% terms state that it does not apply to *Target gift cards*, hence, applies to all others. This specifically states no gift cards. That said, I believe the printable last year said no gift cards and it did work (until they put the smack down on that).

I say give it a try, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I don't think that's accurate at all, that Disney GCs are considered entertainment cards. The reason that the Disney GC works w/Red is because Red specifically excludes TARGET GCs...which people interpret as *all gift cards sold at Target* and then everyone jumps on them and says that Disney GC is a (insert magic non-gift card word here). IMO, truth is...the Red terms specifically state that it is not valid on *Target* GCs. The 20% specifically states that it is not good on Gift Cards (and goes on to exclude iTunes, which also get 5% Red discount).

I hope I'm wrong, but I think it's a pretty safe bet that gift cards means all gift cards....

Could you tell me which forums are best? First trip to DisneyWorld and looking to save some money. :) Have already booked rooms and will get tix on post, more worried about daily expenses.

disboards.com are the most frequented and have the most members. I'm a travel agent that specializes in Disney travel and I use the boards all the time.

Thanks for all the thoughts everyone. I think imjustagirltoo is correct, but I'll give it a try anyway.

I guess I'm really looking for deals like this. It didn't even cross my mind until I saw this thread - are discounted gift cards common? And they can be used at food establishments are well?

Disney gift cards are good for almost everything at Disney World, restaurants, room reservations, tickets, merchandise. Finding discounted Disney gift cards is another story.

For the last couple of years there has been a spend $50 get a $10 Target gift card deal in December. You can get a $50 Disney gift card and then get the $10 target card and rinse and repeat depending on how many coupons you were able to print.

Many grocery stores also sell Disney gift cards and have some sort of reward for buying them.

I use my Target RedCard to get 5% off too and that works on Disney gift cards.

If you want to look at the disboards just head over to the Budget Board. It's not all Disney World money saving, but it has a thread about this.

And my favorite Disney money saving sites are Mousesavers and couponingtodisney

I use disboards.com - they really know their stuff and how to go to WDW on the cheap. Mousesavers.com is another good site for it.

imjustagirltoo 11-15-2013 03:02 PM

I've not been to WDW in a couple of years, but at DL you can use a Disney GC everywhere 'Disney'. The exceptions would be other-branded restaurants outside of the part (Downtown Disney, for instance), and select places inside the parks that are leased by an outside agency (Starbucks, Ghiradelli...not just 'sponsored by', like Coke Corner). You can use the GCs for food, retail, parking, hotel, tickets, to pay off a cruise or an Adventure by Disney.

Quick question ,
I have never heard of getting 5% off Disney gift cards using a target credit card, what other gift cards do you get 5% off too?

solenita 11-16-2013 01:31 AM

you can always check abc gift cards. they resale gift cards. I use them quite a bit. they don't always have all stores in stock, but it is worth a shot to look every now and again.

I believe it's any gift cards that they sell at Target that are not Target GCs. iTunes, etc. I think they carry more GCs for the holiday season. Sometimes they only have high denomination Disney GCs but last year at this time I found some $25 ones and got a discount (a special deal other than the 5%). $25 ones are good for me to gift to my kids. Yes we have used them at WDW to pay off room expenditures (dining and purchases charged to room, etc.)

MySD012 11-16-2013 01:49 PM

so is this being hang out on Thursday or Friday??

Yes, I have bought Virgin Mobile cards at Target with my red card with the 5% discount. Do I believe a VM card could be included in the spend $75? Shouldn't but you could always try if you are willing to settle for just the 5%...

However, you might get a better deal at the chain grocery stores ( Kroger, Safeway etc. ).

Bell65 11-17-2013 06:32 PM

We get gift cards all the time at 20% off...great deal...100 dollars at cheesecake factory for 80bucks...100 in itunes for 80...only fails with target gift cards...even works with visa gift cards...now...heres the kicker for me...will this work with the 5% pharma plus 5% redcard plus 10% employee discount...that would total 40%...my wife and i would literally spend thousands there if thats the case...

It will be worth it to read all of the WDW sections of MouseSavers.

DisBoards is helpful too, but it's like Slickdeals (a forum with thousands of threads) so it will take you a long time to get through all of the pertinent info.

I don't know how it works with the employee discount. Can you normally stack the employee with the 5% and the 5%?? If yes, then probably (IF it works at all).

Just to be clear, it definitely won't work on Target or iTunes gift cards since they are specifically mentioned as excluded.

If it does work, it's not actually 40% off. It's 20% then 10 then 5 and then 5 so it'll be less than 40% total, but you probably already knew that.

MySD012 11-21-2013 06:51 AM

is anyone going to order online at 2am CST and you can receive this 20% on 11-30-2013.....

LeGrandPronk 11-25-2013 04:55 AM

One idea that my wife (the Target and Disney obsessed) did was buy all of our Disney gift cards at Target using her Red Card and a Target Pharmacy Rewards 5% discount. So we ended up getting 10% off of about $2k in gift cards. We then used the gift cards at Downtown Disney to buy annual passes, and at the parks. The pharmacy rewards is only 5% extra, but it ended up being another $100.

Do you have to fill prescriptions to get the target pharm 5%?

coreyann 11-25-2013 07:26 AM

IIRC last year they were doing the $10 off $50 promo (or something of the sort) and their clause was no GiftCards, which is Target's Gift Card. It worked on all Gift Cards for the most part, I remember a friend loading up on Disney cards for their trip (many here were getting the Amazon Kindle ones). Eventually they put a smackdown on it though and that stopped working for the most part. Since they have the space in Gift Cards I'm guessing they've wisened up and the 20% off won't work.

Also, this year at WDW my SIL used the Disney cards at the Starbucks in the Magic Kingdom without issue. She also used it pretty much everywhere - Downtown Disney etc. So if you are going it should work everywhere within the Disney parks.

TATYS00 11-25-2013 07:34 AM

I didn't even know you could buy gift cards with 5% discount at Target.

Thanks OP.

Yes, that's why it's called pharm rewards.

One 5% for every 5 filled, I think. Only certain RX's count, though. It's complex.

Did you read any of this thread? Similar coupons have always said they exclude gift cards, but they only exclude Target gift cards. Others are considered entertainment cards by Target's system. This coupon also states iTunes cards, so I still have hope that it will work.

I agree. There are two threads on the disboards and some are getting over rides, but it sounds like corporate is on to it and I imagine those managers are going to regret the decision. :( someone over there saved $1200! I'm so jealous! ;)

I did get this deal, on Sunday in MI, Tl over road pricing. (only 20% off not additional 5% for red card couldn't stack). (pd 4K for 5K of gift cards)

My brother got this on Sun as well. (I think he bought 3K and paid 2400$). My boss wife went out today and she also was able to get this. (Different store). She bought 900 and paid 720.

Keep trying, if you want it!

You need a TL to over ride the price.
