Price Matching & Coupon Matching Policy Roundup
I've noticed that people often have questions about price/coupon matching, or have trouble executing price matches. I'm hoping to provide all the resources you need for successful price matches. Some of these policies are hard to find so I hope this list is helpful to noobs and veterans alike.
My first rule of price matching is to bring a printout of the store's PM policy with you. Before you, go have the relevant sections highlighted, this includes anything having to do with rebates, coupons, etc. This puts them on notice that you are serious and have done your homework. Nothing beats the feeling of having a manager contradict the PM policy, then pulling the PM policy out of your pocket and pointing to a section (already highlighted) that negates what he said. When that happens, you'll get your PM 100% of the time, and the manager will feel like a tool. Hopefully there will be lots of other customers nearby when this happens  These are the price matching policies of the most popular SD retailers, in alphabetical order. If you can think of any that I missed please add them to the wiki. http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/cus...=1-1#match http://bedbathandbeyond.custhelp...._topview=1 http://www.bestbuy.com/site//olsp...d=cat12098 bodybuilding.com - you have to call to get a price match but they will match competitor prices http://www.buy.com/corp/support/g...rantee.asp http://www.compusa.com/help/terms.asp?#pricing (thank you luv2save! - repped) http://www.deepdiscount.com/helpp...ailability http://www.endless.com/help/200104720/ (thanks wookiewoo - repped) http://www.jr.com/information/pop...hnote.html http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?ac...olicy.html http://www.officedepot.com/render...merService http://www.officemax.com/omax/cus...ct=Pricing http://onlineshoes.custhelp.com/c...p_faqid=21 https://help.overstock.com/cgi-bi...OOT_QH_L2& (thanks wookiewoo - repped) http://www.sears.com/shc/s/nb_101...?adCell=AF http://www.shoes.com/shop.asp?Sho..._guarantee http://www.staples.com/sbd/conten...match.html Target.com - http://www.target.com/b/ref=br_bx...e=10824271 Target B&M - http://forums.slickdeals.net/show...id=1441205 http://www.tigerdirect.com/sector....asp#price Wal Mart - According to fine print on TV commercial "Our stores will match the price of any local competitor's printed ad for an identical product. See post #32. Can anyone find: Frys - See Wiki FYE Others? One thing to note is that some of the retailers above do not PM other stores but it's still helpful to know what their PM policy is. |
Price match & competitor coupon acceptance
STAPLES
STAPLES also has a competitor coupon acceptance policy that is not mentioned in detail on Staples.com's price guarantee page. STAPLES's in-store price guarantee policy is also broader than is what's posted there as well. In-store corporate intranet has access to more aspects of the program, but even it is not up to date with current corporate policy for in-store price matching/comeptitor coupon acceptance. (Which is even broader) STAPLES retail stores accept printed or circular/newspaper coupons from other competing office supply and electronics retailers. Known retailers are: Office Depot, OfficeMax, Circuit City, Best Buy, Microcenter and Fry's among others. Acceptance is by manager discretion according to how "local" the competitor store is (another state may not be accepted), but according to corporate the policy is firm. If you have a valid coupon from a competitor for an item they stock, it should be accepted under their price match policy. If you encounter a clerk who doesn't know of the policy, take the issue to the manager, and if even she/he doesn't know (happens) feel free to note his/her name and the store number (usually at the top of a receipt). Then call the Staples "Office Of The President" toll free number. Ask them if the policy is in effect nationwide, and when they say yes (current as of this post), give them that name and number, and inform them of what occurred and the names of those involved. Say you'd still like to use it now, and they may keep you on the line while they reprimand them, and tell you to go back in and make your purchase. STAPLES Office of the President: 1-800-338-0252 (Only use if after escalating your request to the most senior store manager available, you are still denied) -TA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Walmart B&M "Ad Match Guarantee: Our stores will match the price of any local competitor's printed ad for an identical product. Not applicable to Walmart.com. Restricitons apply. See store for details." Walmart.com We strive to provide you with the lowest prices possible on Walmart.com as well as in our stores. However, sometimes a price online does not match the price in a store. In our effort to be the lowest price provider in your particular geographic region, store pricing will sometimes differ from online prices. Our local stores do not honor Walmart.com pricing or competitor advertisements from outside of a store's local trade territory. Please Note: Prices shown on Walmart.com are online prices only. Products that are shown as available in your local Wal-Mart store may have a different price. We are able to show you availability for select products in your local store in the Electronics, Jewelry, Baby, Pharmacy and Home departments. thank you, this was very helpful.
thumbs up. |
keep in mind the "spirit" of the policy... meaning the store has the price matching policy so the consumer can feel safe and secure (in regards to price/value issues) so the shopper can shop with confidence at their store
once in a while a manager may need to be reminded... LOL |

So, if I purchase an item at BB through a PM, am I still eligible for another PM if the price drops at another store? Furthermore, am I eligible for yet another PM at BB on their promotion? All within 30 days.
I don't think it falls under PM'ing a PM, right? |
Thanks...should help a lot for black friday!!
|
Just an FYI with OfficeMax. I've noticed items on their website on sale or clearance. Just print out what you see and you can go into your loc OfficeMax and they will adjust the price accordnig to what you printed out. According to them their warehouse sometimes adjusts prices on their website an the local stores do not know about it. But they will honor the price as long as you bring proof. I purchased a fax machine and a laptop using this method.

"This policy is subject to change without notice."
-ah, the get out of jail free card- Two incidences I remember vividly: 1. Office Max telling me that Kmart was not a competitor 2. Best Buy store manager telling me that BestBuy.com was a different company and they would not price match to them because they were an "online retailer" (umm, ya think) Sad that the customer is no longer "always right"... |

You probably are not eligible. If it is a significant amount, return the item and repurchase it at the lower price. |

(A piece of advice for people dealing with managers--try to get them away from other employees when you deal with them. If they have dug their heels in against you, an audience makes them much more unlikely to change their position. No audience will help them keep their pride and get you the deal.) Best Buy got into trouble not too long ago for having 2 "websites." One available to the public and one through the stores. The prices were different. They were supposed to remedy that situation. I'm hoping that your event happened "pre" them getting busted and that they have remedied the situation. A rep for OP, thumbs up for "the deal," and a rep for firebug. Thanks, everybody! |
For Frys - I could not find their PM policy , but I know their stores don't PM their website price except the San Francisco Bay area stores.
|
Thank you for putting this all in one place--we have been talking about this week and were unsure of who did pricematch.
Walmart--not sure what the policy states, but they have price-matched for us before...actually it was on black friday. They just wanted to see a copy of the ad they were matching. Have fun shopping everyone! |
Policy
There are always exceptions to these policies. Sometimes in favor of the consumer, but usually in favor of the store. A recent example is is the Toys R Us free $25 gift card on purchase of Mario Galaxy (Wii).. While the PM policy for Bestbuy clearly states "The Best Buy Price Guarantee does not apply to our or our competitors' free offers, ..." , Bestbuy went as far as adding a system-level code for Bestbuy PM TRU's Mario Galaxy Offer. Even after this, some people were denied this offer at BB stores across the US.
So, even though the policies are in place, there are places where they are not followed exactly, so all these links are YMMV :).. Still a good post to have when comparing PM policies. |
I agree with taking managers to the side to man-handle them.
While you may have the policy in hand- it is handy to know (from experience) which stores stand BEHIND management decisions and which do not. If you were arguing at certain stores- even if it's against posted policy, managers can do whatever they want. In really good ones- that's not the case. OD is one of those certain stores- ugh! Don't upset anyone. Best rule of thumb, is NOT to have a chip on your shoulder when you do it or start. Stay polite and courteous at all times. Chips tend to throw up road blocks pretty quickly! |

My question is...will these company's price match a local competior and then honor a coupon with it?
|
Seems a good place to ask...Dell states it does not match competitor pricing. Does this hold true if you've got a rep of theirs in an online chat? I.e. do they have that policy on the books to scare people away from doing tons of PMs but they frequently make exceptions?
I'm looking to buy a GPS watch and Dell is $100 higher than most retailers. Would like to get them to PM a decent price so I can buy from them and use a couple GCs from a recent Inspiron deal. |
My personal experience I have found that HomeDepot will PM to Lowes, Sears or BestBuy. Probably more stores but those are the ones I have tried. It was necessary to bring in either the ad, or what I did was a printout from the web site of the competitor showing the item and the price.
They MATCHED the price and let me use a 10% off coupon but would not BEAT the price and use a coupon. YMMV. (Homedepot.com is a separate entity from the HD B&M and the B&M would not match the .com and vice versa) Personal note: Stick with the B&M as CS is AWFUL with the .com |
Nice summary.
As far as I know Fry's don't match the prices with their online prices. Also it is very hard to get price matched with other stores. |
OK quick thing to add.
I still see people that don't get the .COM B&M seperation. They are all seperate, no matter what anyone has told you. That being said, a lot of companies Associated with each other (like B&M with same name .coms) will honor the price of each other. Staples will match Staples.com. etc. NOW.. The .COMs are governed usually by the rule of "must be a competing online retailer" so B&M PMs, don't really work. The B&M's are governed usually with "will match leading competitors" or "local competitors" Leading meaning - the bigguns and the occasional small local store. Local meaning - anything around (50 mile radius usually) BOTH are usually required to verify the item is IN-Stock at another store. Of course this is not always the case.. but the higher the dollar value off.. the better the chance for rules to be executed. All that being said.. some store offer instore pickup.. this is MOST convienient. You can PM to Staples.com something from Officemax.com and Pickup in your local store. Of course YMMV, but I have had success with this at Circuit city, Staples, and OfficeMax. just call their .COM Customer Service, or do an Online Live Chat. This method can also save you from the dreaded "Overnight" shipping charge tacked onto your Online PM's, that kill the deal. So... check out your options when you get the chance, so you are armed and ready.. But remember to be nice.. and remember to hold your ground.. I recall once I was PMing an item, and the manager said they didn't do the 110% matching anymore.. all I did was point to the Ceiling Banner, the Stickers on the Monitor, the Lil Brochure on the desk.. and he matched it. Good Luck and as always.. YMMV! ~ Captain |

I found CompUSA's Price Match Policy. I added it to the wiki. Link here [compusa.com] to policy. Thanks for consolidating info. :)

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread!
The wiki is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! |
Fry's B&M PM policy. [travidia.com] It's printed in their weekly ads. AFAIK, Frys.com does not price match.
|
Circuit City - If the item is available for online purchase at regular price, you can purchase online and pick up in the store on Black Friday for the Black Friday price. I did this and the price automatically adjusted. Saves standing in line, just go during the early bird time frame.
Not sure if this will work for other stores as well but it may be worth a try. |

Scan of Fry's Pricematch Policy
1 Attachment(s)
Here is a color scan of the in-store Fry's price matching handout. I'd think it'd be less likely they'd argue a copy of it than something retyped by hand. I did a test print of the file I've attached, BW on a laser, and it prints fine, easily readable.
The only time I personally ever had a price matching problem at my local Fry's was on an item that was IDENTCAL (100 Maxtor DVD's) but was sold with different SKU's to different retailers (OfficeMax), thus technically making it a different item. Pretty common practice that makes many items not PM'able. Seems dishonest and shady, but it's the way it is. So be sure to check the SKU's in the ads. |
This is a great compilation of things most SDers need to know. I vote for making it a sticky! Reps to OP and all who contributed to this amazing thread!

OfficeMax Price matching
I had a manager at OfficeMax tell me that they did not price match if the other store does not have the item in stock. She said it was like they were filling the other stores raincheck. Well if the other store had it in stock I wouldn't have been there trying to price match. They should have been happy just to get the business you would think.
|
It doesnt really matter what official policy the store has its up to the specific manager or CSR at the time your dealing with them.

I have a few tips/suggestions for organizing this thread. Create simple wikis for three sections: (1) Pricematch (2) Competitor Coupon (3) Price protection guarantee.
Here are some ideas on the contents Pricematch (1) What is pricematch? Why you should do a pricematch? Describe what it means - stores want to hold their customers - hence pricematch. You should do it because a majority of stores offer 110% pricematch - meaning further savings for you....etc. This first point is specially important for n00bs. I have seen many people asking what PM means (2) How do you do a pricematch? Locate the deal. Then locate a store that offers >=110% PM policy but does not have that deal. <OP's instructions go here>. Place an order with the no-deal store and get a pricematch. Mention the ways to do pricematch: (a) Go to the B&M store with the printout of the deal ad. (b) Locate the online deal. As soon as you place an order with the no-deal store (online), call them up and mention the deal. Do not finish until they've done the pricematch over the phone. (c) Many online stores have livechat. If the no-deal store has livechat then place your order and provide the livechat CSR with the hyperlink to the deal. They should do the pricematch instantly. (3) Check your credit card (and online account with the no-deal store) for the credit adjustment in 1/2 days (4) List of stores and policies Price Protection Many stores have a price protection policy (e.g. Amazon). If the price of the item goes down within 30 days of your purchase, then the store will refund the difference. You should keep checking prices <OP: mention some tools here like that Amazon price check website that sends an email if price drops>. Add stuff here |

Will I still qualify for price protection after a PM?

If an admin notifies me that they want to make this thread a sticky then I'll polish it up so it's more deserving of the honor. Considering how many slickdeals rely on successful PMing I'm surprised that nothing like this has ever been compiled before. |
Are competitors coupons just YMMV? I don't really see it mention in any stores policy (CC, BB, OM, WM, etc.). I've tried it many times, but were also denied many times.

Does anyone have know what stores will PM black friday ads even though they are limited quantity or one day only?
|
Why post the (non) price matching policy of places like Amazon. I'd think a list of places that price mact would be better than links to their policy saying they don't price match, ie
"Amazon.com does not price-match with other retailers (including those who sell their items on our Web site). We do, however, consistently work toward maintaining competitive prices on everything we carry." |
Quote:
Also, Amazon does PM their own prices if they should drop within 30 days. So the link to Amazon's policy is also helpful in that respect. |
Just last week I was not able to pricematch an item at Sears against the other local Sears store, where the item went on clearance. According to the manager, Sears does not match against clearance merchandise, and every store has its own clearance inventory and prices. At the same time, all other Sears stores, had the item on clearance but were already out of stock.
|
It bears mentioning that PMing at Circuit City on an item that has a rebate can possibly kill the rebate.
Very often CC rebates will have a "hidden" minimum purchase price requirement that is not printed on the rebate form. If such a requirement exists on a CC rebate and you purchase the rebated item below that price (by PMing, for instance) then your rebate will likely be denied. However you can determine the minimum required purchase price for a CC rebate program if you call the CC rebate center (866-754-7717) and inquire. Be sure to give the CSR the specific program ID on the rebate form. |
Quick question that may have already been answered. Do receipts count as a legitimate form to get a price match with?
I recently bought an item at CC with a PM and was wondering if I could also go to Staples and use the CC receipt to have them price match an item. |

I could use some help with this one..
Shop Rite has the DS lite in this weeks ad for 114.99 with your price plus card.. reg 149.99- 35.00 w/ card..+ 114.99 But they dont have any/ any where.. Can i take this ad and PM somewhere else.. And where should i go.. It is a limited Quanity item.. Sears's policy does not say anything about the limited quanity .. But BB and CC do.. |
Quote:
And most places require that a local store have the item in stock before they PM. So if the ad specifically states that quantities are limited, it could make a store more likely to call and check availability before they agree to PM. I could've sworn I saw some good deals for the DSL over in Hot Deals this week. Are you sure you can't do better than $115 elsewhere? |
That is the cheapest i have seen in-store .Around here . I am trying my hardest to use cash/ instead of charge.. I even called the main office and they just dont have any.. I had when they do that.. According to the store they havent had any since black friday.. But the have been advertising it since..
|
Just a quick question about Zappos -- I know they have their one-per-month thing in place, but it'll be my first time PMing them so just trying to get a grasp of the policy, really. Does it basically shake out to just 10% off of the lowest competitor's price you can find (110% PM)?
That's what I read it as, at least.. |
Quote:
|
Quote:
I don't know why all the hubbub about Zappos, then. I suppose if Zappos' price is incredibly high then it would bring that 110% up considerably, but.. Thank you for the info. I get it now :) |

Maybe there is a place for this info in your thread, USC. Lots of zappos PM questions. Would be great to direct folks here. Forgive me if it has already been spelled out.
How to PM to Zappos Call Zappos and let them know that there is a pair of shoes you are interested in buying from their site, but have found the same shoes for less on another site, and would like to do a price match. You will need to provide the Zappos rep with their item's sku# and the website with the better price. Best bet to help them find the right amazon item s to give them the ASIN to search (found under product details on the amazon page). All of the following must match: Designer/Brand; Style; Color; Size And the shoes must be available for order at both sites. They also automatically upgrade you to 1 day shipping. Shoes ordered by late afternoon should arrive the next day. New as of December: Each customer is permitted to apply this offer to a maximum of one (1) item during any given calendar month. How to Figure Out Your New Price Zappos price matches at 110%. (Meaning, Zappos will discount you 110% of the difference between their price and the amazon price.) 1. Find the difference between the Zappos price and the Amazon price. 2. Add 10% 3. Subtract that amount from the Zappos price. Example: using Zappos price = $50 and Amazon price $10. 1. $50-$10 = $40 2. x 1.1 = $44 3. $50-$44 = $6 ... $6 would be your PM'd price from Zappos. It's ymmv on how shipping may be factored in. Usually if the amazon item qualifies for Free Super Saver Shipping, the Zappos rep will honor that and not subtract a shipping amount. When sold from a vendor on amazon its about 50-50 whether the rep will deduct the vendor's cost to ship. You can also sometimes get the rep to subtract an additional $5 from PMs through endless.com for their negative $5 shipping promotion. Happy hunting! :girly: |

I had a question that someone could hopefully help me with... I bought a canon digital camera at Staples on the 12th with the free printer... now they are offering an instant free 1GB memory SD card. Do you know if I call them or go to the store, if I would be able to get the free SD card?? Thank you in advance!!

Walmart does PM to other stores. What they dont do is PM percentages if the final and original price arent listed in the ad.
|
Shoes.com has recently changed its price matching policy to mirror the change at zappos.
Specifically, with shoes.com, the policy has always been that you get 115% of the difference on a maximum of 3 shoes of the same style. Now, you may only take advantage of the price protection on 1 pair of shoes per customer per month. From the notes section at shoes.com [shoes.com]: Quote:

Sears pricematch experience anyone?
I bought an appliance at a local appliance store and then found out that Sears has a 110% pricematch policy. The appliance I bought is not in stock at the store I purchased it from, so they are expecting it in a few weeks. I called Sears and Sears will have it in a week.
Has anyone price matched at Sears? The customer service rep at Sears said she would email me pricematch instructions, but it doesn't seem to apply unless I've already purchased the item at Sears. Also, the email instructions say the other store must have the item ready to ship. It doesn't say that in their policy. Do you think I should just head down to a local Sears with my receipt from the other store? Would that be enough for them to pricematch? UPDATE: Went to Sears and they basically don't have a pricematch policy. The person on the floor told me they only have a pricematch policy up to $50. I said this was not true and showed her the policy. She conferred with another sales person who said they only pricematch with national chain stores. I showed that guy the policy saying "local retailer." At that point, he got the floor manager who took one look at the price difference, didn't even look at me and just said "no" to the sale guy before walking away. At that point, the sales guy gave me the national complaint line to call, but another sales person said it would just get re-routed back to the store manager. The sales guy told her to "shhh...forget it" and tried to give me the national complaint number again when the store manager happened to come by. After going over it again and again, they basically told me the price match policy is at th e stores discretion. I told them if they have a written policy in place they should follow it. The store manager just said "sorry, there's nothing I can do for you," over and over. |

Anyone have any info on newegg? I bought something from them like 2 weeks ago and now they have it listed for $10 less. Just wondering if I should contact them and see if I can't get a $10 refund or something. Thanks.
|
Thank you! very helpful post:)
|
you should add evogear.com since they price match they beat their competitor's price by 5%. Zappos.com doesn't price match anymore.

I've noticed that most stores that offer price matching try to invalidate many and require too much to make it work efficiently. Comments?

funny fun!

anyone have any experience pricematching through calling circuit city's 8 number? i called them 3 times tonight to pricematch a movie that was cheaper at bestbuy, (100 vs. 50 dollars). They told me that they do not pricematch movies?!! when i asked why as their online policy does not exclude movies. their response was that movies were too small to pm. Should i call again, give up, push it?

It's tougher to get a price matched out the door. They haven't sold you anything, you're a PRESPECTIVE customer. If you already bought it, you ARE a customer. Thusly, a lot of managers think of you differently, as in, You can RETURN what you have already bought, and they lose. But you can't make them lose a dime if you didn't buy it at all. It's funny. A lot of places think of their price match policy as price protection and not the other way around, people more likely to return an opened item makes the store lose even MORE money. Example. I buy a hard drive at staples. I go home, I see the SAME hard drive on sale at Office Max for $30 cheaper, I go back to staples. I return the hard drive and purchase at office max. STAPLES lost my business, the drive, and my money. Not to mention, they can't sell it in store again, not without a discount or something. So they STILL lose even more, cause they aren't gonna get their set price. So..lets take it this way. I take the drive back to staples, when returning, they ask why, I say it's $30 cheaper at Office max, they call and confirm, and they reduce and beat their price.. why? They - Got my Business, Made me Happy, Saved me 10%, screwed Office Max out of a Hard Drive sale, and did not have to deal with the returned merchandise, they may have taken a small hit, but that drive's value decreased when I opened the packaging so why not match it. So it's a lttle easier to see the point there.. no? Now take it from the point of I go in, I try to PM the drive to OM. Staples is gonna take a $30 loss, and I haven't even bought anything yet. They might say no, it doesn't hurt em, it doesn't help. But the manager just cares about the bottom line on that, a lot of them get paid bonuses to keep that stuff low. You screw them if your item is returned opened or used, they get hurt double bad. Sales down, returns up, Unsellable Merchandise, etc... their more apt to just match it. ~captain |
on sears site it states they will price match local comp. online pricing (not just any online stores pricing with shipping)....so what about if i live in alabama and the store is online and located in new york? anyone had luck doing this or should i just order online?
i ask cause i bought a mount with my samsung 50" deal from the other week...i got it with 24 months interest free but i paid 500 and can get it shipped for 250 online. i was hesitant to get it there knowing i could likely get it online but it was the first mount after looking at a bunch of them that would meet my exact needs. and now that i know what to look for i want to get it pm'd or just return it and order online. thanks |
Last week my dad bought a bb grill at lowe's b&m. This week it went on sale, $31.00 less. Is he entitled to the Lowe's Price Protection plan?, or do you have to buy it on-line or order it on-line and pick it up.
|
Quote:
1) Go in with your receipt and demand they give you a credit for the difference. 2) If they refuse then just buy a new grill at the sale price and return it using the older receipt at the higher price. As long as you are within the return window they can't deny you the refund with the original receipt. |
JC. Penny Store refuse price match JC. Penny.com
I found slow cooker that is much cheaper than local store, JC. Penny is so old fasion, no site to store, no price match.
|
so....
I tried to PM at BestBuy tonight against frys.com. In my case, there's a local store in addition to frys.com. It was past 9 pm when I was in BB and Fry's had closed. frys.com's price is $2299 on a TV and I believe the local store's price is $2499. Reading the fine print, if they'd gotten through to Fry's, BB would only have PMd to $2499. HOWEVER, if I *bought* the TV at BB ($3200) then returned with the proof of Fry's price of $2499, the 110% policy would have made the TV $2410. |
Does Target have a B&M PM policy? I have read their online PM policy but it does not mention any B&M PM policy. I know they used to but it's been a while and I want to use up some GC's but the same item is cheaper at Wal-Mart by about 20 bucks.

does this mean that now BBB coups DO expire? thanks susan |
Kmart is probably the only major retailer not mentioned thus far. Is Kmart's PM policy the same as Sears? I know nowadays it's tough to know where one ends and other begins with them sharing CCs, GCs and such, but I've only been able to find their online policies, and no B&M listed anywhere.
Great, informative topic, by the way. |

I see that Sears policy says they will price match online prices from locally deliverable retailers. I know Amazon is online only, no local presence anywhere.
Still want to know if anyone has ever had luck pricematching amazon at sears? Looking to get a couple Weber products. |
Re: Walmart's Pirce Match Policy, if I print a circular or a "shopping list" that includes the sale dates, prices, sales products from the company's website, will Walmart honor the price? (example, Albertsons has capri sun for 1.50. They dont have an option to print their circular like Minyards. I put it on my shopping list with them and print it out. For some reason the circulars aren't coming anymore in the papers and its a little too far to drive for certain sales.
|
If you try to print a price from walmart that's lower than usual, it'll print with a giant white block over the price. It was really strange when that happened to me when I was trying to pricematch an ipod.

Does anyone happen to know if Walmart has a price guarentee policy?

It seems that Sears/best buys in NY state will have to price match Amazon now as they are paying sales tax because of having a local presence in NY state. probably worth a call to the BBB of NY to get some clarification on it. if the sales start to happen and you can get a good deal thru amazon PM from one of the BM stores you get a little more level of confidence in case of issues, financing etc..

Walmart...the policy is if you bring in the ad and it is the EXACT same model the price guarantee is in place for 30 days after YOUR purchase...I have never gone in with anything but the original ad from the local paper so I don't know about printed from online |
Bed Bath and Beyond
Also, bed bath and beyond accepts coupons from competitors (LNT) and will match them. The coupon just has to be current. It works perfectly since BBB doesn't allow coupon postings online and LNT does :) .

i read best buys price match policy and it says they dont match free offers and stuff like that, but i remember when walmart was giving the free giftcard with purchase of a ps3 and best buy decided to match that. so my question is, target currently has a sale of the sony bluray player 350 with a free $40 giftcard and 2 sony blurays, what are the chances they will match that?
also does anyone have a 12% off best buy coupon, only thread i found had some black and white scans, i dont know if bb will take those. Thanks |
I received an offer from Micro Center for a Free flash card or usb flash drive
now the question is is this redeemable at staples or elsewhere? as a pricematch? micro center is about 1/2 hour drive and would prefer to use it somewhere closer |

The answer to this is no. I just left Best Buy today after I was told by one of the employee's that BB should be able to match the Target ad. I had the flyer with me and went up to customer service and they didn't want to give it to me, they called the manager and he also said he wouldn't honor it. The sad part is I had 2 blu ray movies, 3 games, an extra controller, the PS3 system, a memory card adapter, and was even thinking about the warranty. When he said no and wouldn't budge I just left all the items at customer service and just bought everything at Target. All because they wouldn't budge on a $40 gift card. I thought he was joking but Best Buy, but he was adamant that Best Buy never honors free offers. I felt like he was treating me like a terrorist when he was talking to me, the service was just that bad. |

I am a cashier at Walmart, and will do my best to help with some of the questions you guys have. I'm fairly confident that an online circular would not work unless you get a nice cashier. As you stated above, its too far for you to drive for a deal, so its probably considered 'out of the competitive area' to pricematch. It would never hurt to ask your cashier, just don't be surprised when you are turned down, and don't push the issue as it probably won't get you anywhere. We do not match online retailers. Once again, they are not in our competitive area. At my walmart, we keep the sales flyers for the week at each register. You might ask a cashier if your store has them, as these are the stores that we would consider in our competitive area. We do not honor what walmart calls gimmick deals, which are percent off's and buy one get one free's. Someone asked if you can pricematch then use a coupon. Yes, you can, as long as its not a competitor's q (iow, it has to be a mq). The item you are pricematching has to be the EXACT item as in the competitors ad. Yes, we will be pricematching on Black Friday (really really wish i didn't work at walmart now, haha). Make sure your item is the EXACT - i really mean EXACT- as we have been warned to watch for people trying to scam. Also, bring the add with you and have it open to the correct page for us to verify that the item is right. This will help us immensely and you'll be more likely to get your pm. I am unsure about the 30 day price guarentee you guys have mentioned. I've never heard of it, but I'm not at the customer service desk, so i honestly don't know. The best bet would be to call your store and ask. If they say no, you could always return the item and then purchase the same thing. The trouble would be worth it for $70 imo. Anysays, happy shopping and good luck! |
Does anyone know if Sam's Club price matches? Or if they will match the price from Wal-Mart as they are owned by the same company?

How does Best Buy's price matching policy work if they have a bundle deal? For example if Best Buy offers a tv with instant savings on a blu-ray player(essentially free) and I find a lower price for the tv will Best Buy match the price and give me the instant savings on the blu-ray player?

BestBuy Pricematch Class Action Suit
As of this posting, Bestbuy has a clearly defined pricematch policy (as linked in the beginning of this thread) where they match local retail stores. However, the enforcement of this policy is quite uneven through untrained CSRs and MANAGERS.
The problem varies from store to store. I was denied over $300 in pricematches with Sam's Club. The manager at one Best Buy store kept chanting that she was denying my claim because "Sam's Club was not a retailer", which is a completely absurd and non-factual statement. She claimed it was store policy not to pricematch Sam's Club, although she couldn't show me one word in the price match offer that indicated such. The CSR at the next Best Buy store I visited not only processed my price match properly and without any hassle, she also offered to juggle an online order I had placed so that it would qualify as a price match through the local store. I didn't have time to do that, so I declined, but I thought that was very customer-friendly for her to go out of her way to try to save me some money. FYI, BBO and BB stores are actually two separate legal entities and that is part of the reason why their pricematch policies are different. At another store, the CSR said that was told not to pricematch Sam's Club but she would approve my request anyway as a price match against Circuit City so she wouldn't get hassled. Again, customer-friendly, but you really have to wonder just how far up the corporate ladder these de facto, unpublished policies are coming from. Well, since I did eventually get my price match and suffered no more than aggravation, I have little damages to show in bringing suit against Best Buy for fraudulent, false, and misleading advertising. But, if you have not been so lucky, you should seriously consider taking action against BestBuy for fraud. These transactions fall under state consumer protection laws, so each state has jurisdiction over its own matters. I suggest finding a large law firm in your state that handles consumer class action lawsuits. You can try http://www.martindale.com to search for local represenation. I also googled "best buy price match class action lawsuits" and found this http://www.kgglaw.com/pages/bestbuy.asp. I contacted them and they are quite serious about persuing this matter. I find it very frustrating that a large company can mislead customers in such a manner without recourse. If you have been screwed by BB on a legitmate claim then you should stand up for your rights. good luck. |

Here's another little known fact. I don't know if it's still true, but Food World stores used to have a policy on a tag above the registers that stated if the scanned price for an item on your receipt was incorrect then you got the item free. I got quite a few free items from Food World because of that policy, years ago. The registers of the local store were horrible for not having the prices programmed in correctly. They may still have the policy, and you have to know to ask, or go to the customer service desk, but I don't shop there much any more since Wal Mart opened, so I don't know if that policy is still in effect or not. |

The reason some Albertson's stores circulars are not in the papers is because from what I understand those stores were bought by another company and closed. I heard it was Publix that bought them, but that has not been confirmed as yet. However the stores still owned by the other company that runs Albertson's stores are still open. We had three Albertsons stores close in our area, but 200 miles away Albertson's stores are still open. Hope that answered your question. WalMart will honor online print outs if they're from LOCAL stores, no Online stores, or another B&M store in another state. I print out online circular pages for local store price matching all the time, but more often I just make a list because at my WalMart they keep the sales circulars from Wednesdays and Sundays at the registers. They won't do price matches on tobacco products, or for prescription drugs. |
Does anyone know if JR.com will price match an item already purchased, if it is still within the 30 day exchange/return period?

If it's an online purchase that is to be pricematched against a local competitor, then you have to be persistant because they'll reject it on the first shot. Since it's purchased online, you'ved used your credit card. This sets things up for a CHARGEBACK, which is what I had to threaten to do if I didn't get (a) an RMA or (b) a pricematch. It's worked for me. Good luck. |

Ok guys. I just called regarding my TV and the guy who I was on the phone with said my order will go through. He said since my order is in the "in production" stage that they will acknowledge the order or something like that.

Office Depot
Just an FYI, I have called all the Seattle, WA area Office Depots, and they all have told me over the phone that they do not honor competitor's coupons for technology items regardless.
Example: I had a $90 off $300 for Staples, which Office Depot would not honor towards the purchase of a new monitor. I would be interested to know if anyone has had similar or different experiences with Office Depot. Thanks. |

Anyone have tips for a successful price match at Overstock?
From what I understand, they are notorious for denying price match claims. I found a watch at Gemnation for $59.99 less than Overstock that I want to buy. What worries me is: (1) Overstock only has 4 left, so they can drag out replying to my request for a price match until it is sold out. (2) How Overstock interprets "promotional free shipping." Gemnation offers everyday free shipping, but I assume Overstock can use the right phrase to somehow screw me. Any help? Thanks! |

And then seen a shaddy dealer on the net had the same set for $1199. so i called tiger and asked for a price match. I was told that the shady dealer wasn't a Mit authorized dealer but they would take another $50 off my credit card bill. I excepted . TV came today . Best Buy PM Policy Improving?
I was hoping this post could help confirm/deny my recent experiences with Best Buy's PM practices. If this can be confirmed by others, I thought this may provide others a great heads up to enjoy it while it lasts...
I know that for awhile now Best Buy has had a PM policy. The only problem: It seemed to be very YMMV (not uncommon with most retailers). As of late, however, they seem to be getting MUCH more lenient with this policy. So much so that reps seem eager to go online while I am at the store to check out a price from a competitor to match it. I was at their store last night and told by a rep that they have recently been told by corporate to do what ever is necessary to match a competitors price to get a sale (they even went so far as to try use a RZ coupon that are usually unusable for PM's... they said if the system allows it, they'll be happy to use it). Can anyone confirm my recent experiences with their recent experiences? Is Best Buy loosening their collar? If not, then I'll just chalk this up as my good fortune to reside near a store that is exceptionally friendly. |
Can someone tell me what to expect re: a Sears Price Protection Request?
Yesterday, all day, Sears was offering "Friends and Family" pricing online. I submitted a price protection request while the sale was going on, for an item I purchased online...I clicked the "price protection" button for that purchase (from a week ago), filled in the current price for yesterday (from the cart) and clicked the submit button, at which point I got the message "your price protection mail was successfully submitted." However, I have received no conformation in my mailbox...How long does it take for them to process this stuff? I hope they'll be able to confirm the one-day-sale prices, which were only reflected when you placed the item in your cart (I did a screenshot for backup). |
Does anyone have a number for a Sears complaint line? The person I'm dealing with by email is clearly reading off a script and incapable of understanding that they are not fulfilling the terms of their price guarantee policy.

Did you e-mail the correct department? I had technical problems submitting a Price match form at Sears.com. When I submitted the form the website posted an error message. I had to copy the price match request and just send it from my e-mail account. My PM request was because the item I purchased online at Sears.com dropped in price. I received a reply in a day or so that said my PM request was being looked into. A few days later I received an e-mail that they were crediting my card the amount I requested. Try sending an e-mail to customer service. Make sure you include all of the requested info on the PM request form. If you don't get anywhere PM me and I'll forward you the e-mail addresses of the customer service reps at Sears that helped me. |

...I came here out of frustration! Though I don't really believe this NEEDS to be put in the wiki that badly- if you are reading this, I'm HOPING you are the one I said to look for this thread!!! If you are trying to PM at a BM Store (newbs: Price match @ an actual store) to a price you printed online... DO NOT mention that it's ONLY available online... Just want to vent... I'm in Las Vegas, I went to Best Buy to PM the Fry's Alice in Wonderland. The cashier told me that they no longer PM Fry's. They'll do all stores except Fry's. Then the Manager came over and said the same thing. I went to Walmart around the block, and they said the same thing!! They'll PM all stores EXCEPT Fry's. Both places stated there was a company memo.
Anyone else having any issues with PM Fry's ads? |
Will Walmart PM an item from a competitor (in my case Kmart) if the item I want from the competitor is not in its ad? I have the online print out, and the online price is the same price as in store (I called to confirm) but i'm not sure if Walmart will shoot me down

Dear ------- ---, Thank you for contacting the "R" Us Family regarding our price match policy. Price Matching Coupon Matching Policy Roundup
There is a manager at CVS that I love, and after having an interesting discussion, we decided that since he gets reimbursed for the full amount of the coupon, that he would let me use the full amount of the coupon, as long as he didnt have to give me cash back. Usually I will just thow some gum or something up to make the difference up. With CVS it is VERY MUCH a YMMV.
|
I'm going to be lazy and not read all of that. Would love if someone could answer this questions though. If a website says "We will price match." Are they required to match a price you find on another site or do is it up to them whether or not they want to do it?

Updated Wiki for Home Depot & Lowe's current policy
Howdy y'all,
I took the liberty of adding Home Depot and Lowe's price matching policy, both ofwhich (unfortunately) are for local retailers. Home Depot NOBODY BEATS OUR PRICES If any competitor tries, we'll beat their price by 10%. Guaranteed.* *If you find a current lower price on an identical, in-stock item from any local retailer, we will match the price and beat it by 10%. Excludes special orders, bid pricing, volume discounts, open-box merchandise, labor and installation, sales tax, rebate and free offers, typographical errors and online purchases. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/w..._Guarantee __________________________________________________ _______________________________ Lowe's Everyday Low Prices, Guaranteed We guarantee our everyday competitive prices. If you find a lower everyday price on an identical item at a local retail competitor, just bring us the competitor's current ad and we'll beat their price by 10%. If a competitor is offering a percent off discount, we'll reduce our current price by the same percentage discount that the competitor is offering. Our price guarantee does not apply to installation labor, to the competitor's closeout, special order, discontinued, clearance, liquidation, or to damaged items. Limited to reasonable quantities. sorry I'm still new to the price match thing, so i'd appreciate it if someone could clarify
do you place the order with the 25 off 75 coupon, and then call in to change the price? or do you call to place the order, and give them the coupon number over the phone? |
Thanks for sharing.

Has anyone had any issues with Newegg's Iron Egg Price Guarantee? I sent in a match request for a camera on Sunday, heard nothing back, then sent a follow-up on Tuesday. I finally got a response on Thursday saying they couldn't match BB because the item wasn't available at that price anymore. (Obviously!) Newegg is usually pretty good about this sort of thing.
