For $36 + tax, I'll try a pair. Thanks!

I haven't purchased shoes on amazon and I know they offer free returns, but is it safer to buy two pairs and return the one that doesn't fit or buy one, contact them and have them exchange it for another size? Thanks!

Buy 2, that way you can try them on side by side. Unless you've returned 10's of $1000's in stuff you'll be safe.

liked the Racer color but no deal

ckhoy21 08-19-2014 07:38 PM

These Merrell's are my favorite minimalist shoe I've tried. They run a tiny bit small on me, I usually wear 10.5 and wear 10 in these. They are super durable and overall good quality.
If you start running in them, start off at a lower mileage, maybe a half mile or 1 mile. And try to land on the balls of your feet as you run rather than heel. You'll be really sore in weird places if you haven't run in minimalist shoes before. Feels great though.
Awesome price, I bought mine for $80 and haven't seen them on sale too often.

I ended up purchasing three pairs haha... sizes 9, 9.5 and 10 cause someone replied that this shoe runs small and I'm usually a 9.5

pcdiy 08-19-2014 07:43 PM

Thank you
Just bought 1

I haven't tried these ever (or any other Merrell shoe). I have some Vibram FiveFingers and New Balance Minimus shoes that I love. The five fingers get awkward looks in public so my minimus are my every day shoes. What makes these better though?

Also I totally agree with what you said about starting slowly in minimalist shoes. The first day I transferred from basic running shoes to my five fingers, I ran almost 3 miles on the road around my college and my feet and legs absolutely hated me the next few days.

LolaFitz 08-19-2014 07:56 PM

doesn't that mean the shoe is a little bigger than other shoes? if your usual size is 10.5 and you wear 10 on this

merrell makes the best running shoes, if you are new to barefoot running merrells site has tips on getting started. thanks for posting this deal my gf just bought a pair:-D

lslal 08-19-2014 08:17 PM

seems so odd to consider running in no socks. I wear socks to cut down on the stinky sweat and chafing. what happens if you wear socks in these?

BuddyTheElf 08-19-2014 08:22 PM

I bought these a few days ago for $39 and forgot to post. Haven't wore them to run yet but they feel similar to new balance minimus but the toe box feels a bit wider. I do wear a 9.5 and bought the same size and they do feel a bit big. And wearing socks with these shoes is no different than any other shoe. I do prefer to wear the thin vibram socks when I run though.

chadfm 08-19-2014 08:24 PM

Would this (type) of shoe be any good for road running? I do probably 75% of my running on-road, so I'm not sure if these would work well..

smashfaq 08-19-2014 08:34 PM

damm SD...didn't need one but reviews made me ordered one...hopefully they sucks so I can find a reason to return :P

I have been minimalist running for a couple of years in Merrell Trail Gloves and for me they perform fine on asphalt and sidewalks, where I am primarily running.
This model has a bit more cushion, but I can't see how that would make a difference.
Check the reviews - I'd wager someone with more knowledge than me discusses it.

They worded something bad and some troll took advantage of it and sued them. The shoes themselves are amazing though.

DerangedCorgi 08-19-2014 08:50 PM

So what size would you guys recommend? I wear from an 8 to 8.5. :o

beldar3648 08-19-2014 08:55 PM

I had some merrell trail glove and the heel would bury into my foot and bothered me. This was about 2 years ago when I got those but luckily I got them from REI and was able to return them. I think the generation after those they got much better and the heel was softer. For this price it is a great deal. I thought $50 for the trail gloves was great.

TonyGString 08-19-2014 09:03 PM

was researching these shoes when purchasing the vibram bikila deal a few weeks ago. although i like my vibrams, a lot, if this deal was live back then i prolly woulda purchased these instead as my first foray into the whole minimalist movement. heard nothing but great things about merrells and these look sick.

fyi, i am not a runner so i wear these primarily for working out and around the house.

Saigonboi19 08-19-2014 09:15 PM

Damn. Was checking it out and price went up to $79.

axus 08-19-2014 09:21 PM

I am concern about size I usually wears 10 for running and trainers and 10.5 for few dress shoes.
How does this shoe size are, should I go with 10 or 10.5?
Though I am an avid runner but I run one or two times on concrete pavements unlike on muddy or dirt trails and mostly on the treadmills.
Given that how long this last, after reading quite a few comments I found the major complain is about the flimsy mesh upper of this shoe, some people comment that their sole stays like new but the upper mesh gone bad which overall counted as bad quality shoe because if one of the two things doesn't long last then its not good quality.
Since you own a pair I am asking these questions.

nothing, although merrell makes nice socks for these and they have a 3 year warranty. also most people just wash the shoes when they get to smelly.

My 5th minimalist shoes.
3 New balance, 1 vibram five finger.

Picked these up as a pair of lightweight, breathable hiking shoes.

Just for clarification, if you wear a smaller size it means they "run big". If you need to wear a bigger size than usual it means they "run small".

PeteyTheStriker 08-19-2014 10:28 PM

Are these shoes wide foot friendly? I got a wider foot and normally wear 11-12 depending on the shoe size. A lot of time 11.5's hit the sweet spot, that come with a W.

kenkaniff 08-19-2014 11:40 PM

I appreciate your experience but it's anecdotal, literally here YMMV. At this price level, you're not really looking at a competitive athlete...Most will buy them for their style, like an SUV, and never take them off pavement. That's fine though; their mass produced and finally at a decent price for bang for your buck. They're $36 bucks? I'll take a $36 dollar Merrell as a backup or as a primary. If it was an emergency item or other than I would say steer clear.

Peoples running styles (which has an enormous amount of physiological and other factors) vary so much that I'm sure everyone has had opposite experiences with a brand. I have an almost obese BMI but in reality low range (ish ;)) fat to body index because of my musculature and how I train. I am very, very hard on "normal: heel drop running shoes slightly off center...enough to torque the shoe in a way that some $300 pairs gave me 30 miles on soft asphalt where as I bought a pair of Walmart house brand shoes (because I forgot my bag and din't want to drive home and get them...just wanted to run) that have probably 130 miles on them and still going strong.

For EVERYONE that does not know off the top of your head what your usual "heel drop" is in your current trail shoes or words like pronator etc...just buy these if you have the luxury.
I wouldn't compare these to any x brand without knowing your use but if you're just getting into this TYPE of shoe/running then BUY them! They are a ZERO drop shoe which is a VERY "different" type of shoe and can cause injury if you do not pace yourself first (these types of shoes have become very trendy for their supposed natural stride blah blah). These shoes have a very generous amount of cushioning (not compared to sneakers) but more than usual for this type of running so they will be very kind on your wallet at $36 and on your shins and toes.

As of 2:52 AM ET, the WILD DOVE are the only color that shoe the $36 pricing.

Thanks OP!

Sure! Not for moderate use but fine for daily driver. Width may be the other issue but a thick sock can make up somewhat for this. Just men can't wear women's shoes because of our egos ;) I laugh but it is true...all men have eyed a few women's styles because they didn't carry the same model in a comparable size as men's at a good price. Refer here to see where you fall compared to men's sizing. These aren't really comfy in the traditional sense but are light. Zero drop shoes will be uncomfortable for extended periods if you have worn more fashion running shoes/tennis shoes.

I'm a little confused at the sizing talk. These are described as true to size by most Amazon buyers?

Not a big fan of Merrell. But brand name aside, this is a bargain.

rczrider 08-20-2014 05:46 AM

Not much of an arch, though there is more arch support in them than the Trail Glove that I have worn. The support may decline as the shoes get broken in though.

Best review on amazon "Are these shoes or wizard feet?

This is my second pair of Merrell Trail-Running shoes, and I'm now fully convinced that these are not really shoes, but the remolded and chopped off feet of wizards. They fit my foot perfectly, I barely even feel like I'm wearing shoes (which in turns makes me more mischievous), and I swear that if I tried hard enough, I could probably levitate. 5 stars."

Looks like the prices are higher for size 10 and smaller in the Black/tanga orange, and 9.5 and smaller in the Wild dove (grey yellow).

yashi 08-20-2014 12:14 PM

Got lucky and managed to snag a pair of the 10s in Wild Dove. I've been wanting some trail running shoes for a while!

CodyH6356 08-20-2014 12:17 PM

ya only ones that are on sale are gigantic size

foneman 08-20-2014 12:20 PM

Keep checking for your size. Earlier today I was able to order a pair in size 10 since I wear a 10, but from what I am reading others say to buy half a size smaller. At that time the 9.5's were not on sale. I just checked and the half sizes were marked down and the size tens were higher so I did get a 9.5 to try as well. Keep trying and you might just get lucky.

gkwong 08-20-2014 12:36 PM

these are for normal/under pronators?

ithrowpoop 08-20-2014 12:48 PM

woohoo! thanks! got one in size 11

us_x11 08-20-2014 01:45 PM

A "minimalist" shoe for the trails sounds... extreme!

Not sure I'm that hardcore, as of yet.

lumanogin 08-20-2014 03:34 PM

Thanks! I was able to get Wild Dove in size 12. All other colors are at $80+.

For the price, these are worth a try. Haven't worn minimist shoes before. Can I wear socks with these?

ramm19 08-20-2014 03:41 PM

Got a wild dove too size 9 (1/2 less than usual), would have preferred the orange or blue, but can't complain, it's $36!

jafo 08-20-2014 04:00 PM

I checked back and all of a sudden 10.5 in black/tanga was $36 again... I bought two pairs. I absolutely love my Bare Access 2 shoes and am hoping these are just as good! The soles wear out pretty quickly... But other than that I love them!

xerodex 08-20-2014 04:44 PM

I am getting conflicting reports. Some review says its 1/2 too small and some its too big.

reactions 08-20-2014 05:30 PM

eh ill order my size then exchange it via amazon - great price as my New balance MT20s are done

karkouti 08-20-2014 06:12 PM

Nice deal, thanks OP.

Didn't know my size for these and saw conflicting reviews on sizing, so I ordered a 10 in in Wild Dove and 10.5 in Black/tanga. Hope one of them fits.

NuNuNYC 08-20-2014 07:04 PM

Thanks OP! Just bought a 10.5 in Black/Tanga!!

Problem with that is if the size you want to exchange it for is more money, they won't exchange it

akalboy 08-20-2014 08:53 PM

Awesome, just got the black/orange (Tanga) in 9.5!

BeauB2566 08-20-2014 09:46 PM

The price changes with size...9's are $36...12's are over eighty :(

AbhinavM5002 08-20-2014 11:09 PM

Got it. thanks!

DickSssss 08-20-2014 11:13 PM

nice shoes, I need it, the orange is very colorful.

joon82 08-20-2014 11:23 PM

nm....................

JayMatin 08-21-2014 01:54 AM

This is a really great deal. Just got one. Thanks.

traydragen 08-21-2014 06:48 AM

No go on the 13's. Great deal for you guys with small feet...

sloddo 08-21-2014 07:57 AM

Managed to snag a pair of the black/tanga's in 10.5 last night. Hope they fit. Had $5.69 in rewards points to use, so getting these for just over $30 shipped is a steal. Thanks and TU!

mlraj 08-21-2014 08:03 AM

Thanks, Got one for me and the lady last night. Try the minimal shows for the price rather than trying at $80.

machaan 08-21-2014 12:27 PM

Price is $79.97

jtonic 08-21-2014 01:11 PM

Still available in 11 and 11.5 in Wild Dove. Just ordered a pair! Been wanting to try minimal shoes and a mid-foot strike! Thanks OP!

Krazen1211 08-21-2014 11:24 PM

Ugh, the 10s are a tad big. Does amazon do an exchange? I see only a return option but I can't rebuy as the 9.5s are no longer on sale.

gti 08-22-2014 12:17 AM

got a 10 this morning. Just got another 10.5 as it came back in stock.
Act quick. Wild Dove.

Eldanoore 08-22-2014 08:58 AM

is this deal still going on?

tonyrome 08-22-2014 11:16 AM

What am I missing, isn't this expired since yesterday?

kidplay 08-22-2014 12:42 PM

i have a 10 and a 10.5 (both in wild dove) but they are too large for me. will sell @ cost if you pick up locally. NYC.

SpamNYam 08-22-2014 12:44 PM

Think these would make for a good spikeless Cross Country shoe?

jk79 08-22-2014 12:57 PM

Good thing I bought a 0.5 size down, based on some of the comments on this thread. I usually wear a size 11.5 in Nike's, but 11 fits perfectly. Sending back my 11.5's.

I got a 9.5 that is also way too big on me. It seems that Amazon does exchange in size though:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/cus...=201077710

Note: If you're exchanging for a different size, we'll cover any cost increase. Otherwise, if the new item costs more, we'll charge you for the difference in price. We'll refund you the difference if the new item costs less.

cato_x3 08-22-2014 05:55 PM

Do people wear socks with these? I read something about antimicrobial lining for going without socks.

smashfaq 08-22-2014 06:06 PM

got my dove color today; 1/2 size short and fit well. going to do trail run around first thing in morning :)...good feeling as far as I tried @ home so far.

bluefakeplastic 08-22-2014 06:42 PM

Welp. I'll join the club. I generally wear a 9.5 - 10 and my toes are swimming in this 9.5. If anybody has a 9 that's too small and looking for a 9.5, let me know! #shotinthedark

The 9 is of course out of stock in the Wild Dove, so no go for an exchange on Amazon. The shoes feel great, otherwise...so I'd love to avoid a straight return.

fergy126 08-22-2014 07:32 PM

Interesting I ordered my normal shoe size (11) and I think they fit well, are they supposed to fit tight?

I talked with Amazon Rep on the phone and was able to exchange to a different size. My color wasn't available, so I got "High Viz/Navy" color instead - which now I actually think looks way more rad, and it wasn't available in the initial sale price. :D

I am getting charged the difference, but the Amazon rep said that when they receive my return, the difference will be refunded - so the exchange will cost me $0.

VikramD 08-22-2014 08:17 PM

I dont know if I am going to keep it just because I don't think I have any need for it

stallion114 08-22-2014 08:57 PM

I have a pair of Merrill hiking shoes that are 11.5, should I size down to 11?
For comparison I usually wear a 10.5 or 11 in cole haan and Johnston Murphy, and my addias tennis shoes are 12.
So it really varies for me
Please advise

Of course, I couldn't get them to come around to this arrangement! I'll try again in a day or two.

Thanks.

joon82 08-24-2014 10:33 PM

Crap. Its indeed 0.5 size bigger than other brands. Bought size 10 and its too big. Sale is over and size 9.5 is 79.99.
Should I insert insole and wear it?

mulciber 08-26-2014 03:42 PM

I was worried that it might be too big based on some comments but I'm glad I ordered my size. I wear a 10.5 for all my rubber shoes (nike, reebok, new balance) and to me this is true to size.
I wore them today and this is the most comfortable shoes I've worn for walking.

snitzle_iii 08-26-2014 06:54 PM

too big. i got 8.5 and 9, but i need an 8 :)

the arch on these feel very weird on my feet. using a lot more calf action than before. interesting shoe

cool. got to try my luck

cato_x3 08-27-2014 10:02 AM

I wore these for a run yesterday and I struggled. My legs were very strained even at short distances, and I had to take many breaks to rest them. I bought two pair and I will be returning the pair I haven't worn yet. I'll keep these for lightweight hiking or whatever. I guess I'm not cut out for a minimalist shoe.

beldar3648 08-27-2014 05:41 PM

I ordered one pair and now regret not getting a 2nd pair for the gym. These feel better to me than my new balance minimus shoes.

Anton83 08-28-2014 08:08 AM

Looks like there back in stock i ordered size 11 and it was too big just did an exchange for a 10.5 checked the website and they seem to have a lot of them back in stock but only a few sizes at $36
