Are you kidding about the performance? You might have a super rig. Try it on old hardware--night and day difference. Win8 FTW.
I second to that on few aspects when my friend in MS gave me beta of Windows 8 to use, I used for about 3 months, basically my views are the OS is very good for mobile devices or devices with touch, the interface of Windows 8 is good in look wise but its very difficult for end users to use it, so practically speaking its more of a good looking software for touch devices but for other devices use of ease is not much.
As far as speed is concern I observe its almost equivalent or slightly more than Windows 7.
I switched back to Windows 7 because my wife and kids are having difficulty using things, but for little professional that wont be any issue.
Mostly there is a view called desktop view once you switch to that, then its pretty much Windows 7, the main screen is the only one with tiles and give you Windows 8 looks.
