Exactly, because their pricing model makes far more sense. They could have priced the D800 far higher, but chose not to.
Based on the current spec, and unless there's some huge surprise, I fail to see how Canon's upcoming 6D will hold its price either. Some will buy upon release for $2100, but when compared to a $2100 D600 or a $2800 5D3, the 6D @ $2100 will be a tough sell.
um. it's actually because they're cracking down on unauthorized discounts. and they will no longer sell parts anymore.
they're trying to build up profit margins again.
