Well, right now with the instant rebates the Canon MAP is actually much lower than $3499, its more like $3199 (thus what you see as the "starting price" at B+H, Amazon, etc). So it doesn't mean that the camera will only sell at retail like the D800, but, it does potentially mean that the deals will be more like $3100 instead of $2800.

If you are someone who is holding out for an extra $100 on this deal, you might get burned, especially since last Xmas season the deals were all lens combo bundles, there weren't many good deals on just the bodies. I imagine Canon will take a similar approach this year
