Careful: Some recent Samsung laptops fail permanently if you boot Linux, so if you're thinking of it, stay away from these with their minimal warranty.
This bug has also been reproduced under Windows, but only under extraordinary circumstances.
Note that this is truly bricked, not usable not recoverable by anybody but the manufacturer. If a virus writer decided to maliciously do this you'd be out of luck.
Probably doesn't have to affect many people, but I'd hate to see anyone get bitten by this.
