With the advent of HDMI, does it even make sense to use these to split the Audio. Any proven better performance by splitting the Audio to Toslink/Optical and using HDMI for Video purposes only??
Given most of the newer receivers have only 2 Optical inputs and how will HDMI switching even work when Audio is split?
I've recently learned that this is still useful for those whose receivers don't support ARC [hdmi.org]
