When I bought the C8000 I didn't buy it for the 3D I bought it because it had better specs and it was cheaper than the other non 3D models. So to answer your question, yes you don't have to use the 3D if you don't want to. Also in order to watch 3D your will need a 3D player and HDMI cables.
