No, I've never tried it. I have a monster of a Dewalt that I use for demo (a little too heavy sometimes). I agree on your point about the handle. I think a pistol grip would be better (more control) when the saw catches on something and kicks back at you....and it will.
That sounds like a nice project, I like rooms that have an open feel.
On an unrelated note, I updated the OP for the professional socket sets, since many were sold out and the prices had gone up. I also added Kmart links for many, since the prices there were the same as the prices Sears had them for yesterday.....why pay more when there is a better alternative.
