Actually the HGST warranty statement (found here [hgst.com]
) clearly states:
"A valid proof of purchase may be required to prove eligibility. If you do not have a valid proof of purchase, the limited warranty period will be measured from the date of sale from HGST to the authorized distributor.
So yes, you can file a warranty claim without a proof of purchase - your purchase date will just be backdated to the original shipping date (aka the date that it shows when you check the warranty in the first place).
, a date of sale for the bare drive serial number wont be on file as it was never sold to an authorized distributor as a bare drive, but the date of sale of the enclosure serial number which is different then the bare drive serial number will be. so you are screwed that way too.
you will find all this out if you ever try to file a claim.
