9500i is based off the old M4 design and it is very weak in design compared to the escort redline and valentine 1. The escort redline has amazing sensitivity and will pick up a signal around bends (off axis) and 2+ miles away. The valentine is very close in performance to the escort redline. The 9500i does not have as much range or the instant on sensitivity of the redline or valentine. The only escort radar I would recommend is redline. I would hands down pick up a valentine for overall pick.
The Escort 9500ix with GPS is a great detector and there is really no reason why it shouldn't be recommended. In urban areas it's the best due to the GPS functionality. I'm very, very happy with it. False alarms are pretty much nonexistent on frequently travelled routes unlike detectors without GPS, and it gives me more than ample notice to slow down before reaching my target. I would never own a detector without GPS. I find false alarms to be extremely annoying.
