Any tips for someone new to manual focus lenses?
If you are shooting people, learn about hyperfocal distance [dofmaster.com]
. Basically, if you shoot in the f/4 or f/5.6 range, you can set the focus to 10ft from you and get most pictures in focus as long as your subjects are 5 to 15ft away. So, you dont need perfect focus every time, just good enough. If you are shooting portraits at f/1.4 or f/1.8, you'll be shooting someone stationary...in which case, you can use live view to focus.
