I have this SSD, along with Crucial, Intel and Sandisk ones. Built 8 PC's and swapped out 5 laptop drives in the last few months. Honestly, this Samsung SSD has the "slowest" boot up time. Don't get me wrong, they're all fast compare to traditional HD's. But, no I am not one of those person that will fall for Samsung's big marketing budget and aggressive tactics, not anymore anyways.
Slowest boot up time or not, my laptop currently has a 5400rpm 250gb hitachi drive. Im pretty sure boot up times will improve regardless. Plus, Im getting plenty of space for a really good price. At this moment the Sandisk and Plextor options are either sold out or at least $20 more.
On the other side, I currently use a 830 in my desktop and has proven to be reliable. It's been a few months and have no problems at all.
The topics you are mentioning are not exactly what I was referring to, but thanks for posting them. Was not aware of that.
