I'm trying to get rid of my cable. Currently, I have netflix, Hulu plus, and amazon prime. Is there a way for me to view the news such as CNN or ABC using Roku?

Only if you purchase a Time Warner Cable package. The Roku will replace a cable box device from Time Warner Cable and open up 300+ extra "live" channels such as ABC, NBC, Food, HGTV, etc., without the ability to record/playback. It just provides "live" channels.

So this does not get rid of cable, but it is the only "simple" option to unlock live TV.

Most areas will stream live TV over the air for channels such as NBC, ABC, PBS. Just buy a $5 digital TV antenna and screw it into your TV (just like in the old days before cable or satellite).
