I'm a bit behind the times.. I keep getting told to NOT buy AMD anymore.. Apparently the intel i3/i5/... series blows away the AMDs in every way?
Not true. I have three AMD systems in my house:
A8 Llano - htpc and light gaming
an older AMD x2 240 dual core with a cooler master hyper 212 and a radeon 7770 (better than the A8)
AMD fx 6300 six core/cooler master hyper 212 evo, radeon 7850 - main gaming rig.

You will spend way more money on an intel system, as the processors are more expensive (and powerful) and you will need to purchase a video card as well.
AMD FX-6300 Vishera 3.5GHz is about $120, has six cores, and is plenty powerful when paired with 8 gigs of RAM and even a lowly 7770 video card.
With the money saved you can purchased a 128 gig SSD - and that's an upgrade you will really notice.
In the end, it's all about how much money you want to spend. And how many FPS you desire.
