Phone Get out of your sprint contract without any fees! Only a couple days left

I appoligize if I'm posting this in the wrong section, but I'm not sure where to put it. I read the site a lot, and this is the first useful thing i've had to add.

With sprint's public refusal to allow Android phones on their networks, no iphone, no new blackberry's, etc.. I had enough, and want something new.

I just got out of 2 lines of service with 2 year contracts for free.

On January 1st, 2009, they are changing their "Administration Fee" from .75cents per month, to 99 cents, which allows you to not agree to the changes, thus letting you out for free.

Be persistant, they have to let you out.

    Here's a copy/paste chat log from sprint.com that I had with a CSR today:

Thank you for contacting Sprint Web Chat. Hello, my name is Kelly. How may I assist you with your Sprint.com order today?

    12:05:11 PM Customer Jordan Johnson
I had a question regarding the increase in Administrative charges that begin on January 1, 2009

    12:05:28 PM Agent Kelly I
Hello Jordan! I will be more than happy to answer your questions today!

    12:06:56 PM Customer Jordan Johnson
It seems that in my original contract agreement, this is a 33% increase to what we have agreed to. And if this is not a government mandated increase, then I have the right legally to end my contract without penalty.

    12:08:28 PM Agent Kelly I
Jordan, I do apologize, in Web Sales Chat, we do not have that information. One moment while I transfer you to the appropriate department.

    Thank you

    No problem
    12:14:39 PM Agent Thongsavanh
I regret to hear that you are considering leaving Sprint. May I ask why you have come to this decision?

    12:15:42 PM Customer Jordan Johnson
I just don't agree to the changes that are being made to my contract and wish to terminate it as of January 1st.

    12:15:54 PM Agent Thongsavanh
May I have the phone number and the pin/security answer to access the account?

    12:16:38 PM Agent Thongsavanh
I appreciate your patience. One moment please while I access your account and review your account notes so I can better assist you with resolving your issue today.

    12:20:39 PM Agent Thongsavanh
I am seeing that you are on an old plan that is not offered by other carriers for 750 minutes at $40. Are you not happy with this plan as other carriers family plans start at $59.99 and up?

    12:22:19 PM Customer Jordan Johnson
I am aware at what other providers family plans start at, that is not the issue.

    12:24:20 PM Agent Thongsavanh
I understand that the administrative charges are the reason that you are wanting to cancel, this is a $0.24 increase from $0.75 to $0.99, it is a $2.88 extra charge per year. We believe that we offer the lowest plan and best equipment because in the long run, if you are changing to another provider there plans are going to be more than the $2.88 admin charges.

    12:26:08 PM Customer Jordan Johnson
I am not talking about any other providers contractual agreements.. that is irrelevant. I am referring to Sprint's terms and conditions under "When You Don't Have To Pay An Early Termination Fee" it states "(c) in response to a materially adverse change we make to the Agreement as described directly below." You have changed this agreement and it has materially affected me, therefore I feel I must be let out of this contract ETF Free.

    12:27:20 PM Agent Thongsavanh
Yes, you are correct. We are able to cancel due to the changes in the administrative increase.

    12:27:55 PM Customer Jordan Johnson
I would like to do so today, I appreciate your understanding.

    12:30:30 PM Agent Thongsavanh
Our billing system automatically sets all cancellations to be effective at the end of your current billing cycle of 12-25-2008. Would you like me to proceed with processing your cancellation request?

    12:31:27 PM Customer Jordan Johnson
I would. Also, I would just like to make sure it is noted that I will not be charged any Early Termination Fees.

    12:33:35 PM Agent Thongsavanh
I have set for the account for cancellation on 12-25 as this change in contract effective 1-1-2009, voids the contract no early termination fees,.
    12:35:31 PM Customer Jordan Johnson
Thank you very much, have a great afternoon. I appreciate your help.

I believe , when you chat (ie black or white ) they dont wanna say something which is not legal , ie deny you the right to cancel due to a adverse change, or not considering administrative fees increase as a adverse change,

2 of my friends were able to cancel there lines, without any issue or conflicts.. it was a breeze.

Also, if you are able to keep your service, do you lose eligibility for any future phone upgrade credits? I want to cancel my existing contract and hop on to another contract on my sero plan but want a new phone credit.

The answer per the agent is:

I do apologize that is not an option. Continuing with the services and the contract means that you agree to the changes that are about to be made effective 01/01/09.

I'm about to do the exact samething, after trying a couple of new phones and still not quite happy we are now shopping for an iphone or G1.

We have 3 lines, 2 are out of contract, if we need to port the phone numbers how do we go about doing that if they term the phone number immediately. I was told by att that the number must be active to port it.

    Anyone know?

I immediately went to an apple store purchased an iphone 3g, and I had to sign a paper transferring my old number to my new phone. The phone took about an hour to start accepting the new number.

I just spoke to Sprint, and they have now advsed me that as of Jan 1st, I have the right to cancel my account, if I choose to, and NOT get an early termination fee on. I had it listed on my account so that if I do decide to terminate early then there wil be no penalty, but I coud not get the contract to conclude early.

At this stage, I guess that we will still be with Sprint until Jan 1st, 2009
