Competition is going to be stiff between these competitors. Someone already mentioned that Lenovo will be redoing their product lines in January and there might be very good deals on some of the thinkpads. A thinkpad is on a totally different level than a Dell. So we'll have to see, but yeah, you're right..good deals to be had lately. |

I think some people are missing the point...
With Profits at record lows for many retailers, you will not see heavily discounted high end ($700+) laptops for sale. Even at cost the things would still be around $500, I don't see how that's a bargain. With continuing "Digital Divide", the idea is to get decent hardware into as many homes as possible. Combine that with outgoing hardware with CES coming a month after Christmas, means like years before you're going to see the biggest discounts on discontinued or soon to be discontinued product. Meaning 10.1 Netbooks will fall under $200. Older 8.9 Netbooks might fall to $99, there isn't much demand for those anymore. Also remember that ION and Dual Core Atoms aren't widely available yet, further putting pressure on companies to pair down stock. You also won't find any Win7 Netbooks on sale (not below $300) Frankly I need a laptop period, I don't need powerful video cards and power sucking quad core power. I use my current lap for Virtual DJ, The Internet and Emu Gaming, I don't need a ton of power and nothing more than 15.4/15.6 would even fit in my bag, so I'll be just fine with an AMD Dual Core powered Lap around $300-350, since a similar AMD Toshiba is at Wal-Mart for about $399 currently and the 17" Laptop from Toshiba is still available at select stores for $368. So I'm positive the $350 price point will be broken during BF |

Dell makes good stuff I didn't mean to imply they don't. What I meant was that I would rather have a lower end Thinkpad v. a lower end Dell or any other brand any day of the week. Anyway... to say there won't be good deals on laptops on black friday is ridiculous. There will be deals to be had. Even if a laptop that can normally had for $500 drops to $400, that's still a 20% drop and while not an earth shattering steal, it's still a good deal. |

As its been said elsewhere, these are fine for anything but hardcore gaming. That being said I also found a Gateway at Microcenter for $299 AMD TL Core with HD3200 IGP [microcenter.com]. You can emulate up to any 5th generation console games (at least I did) with a P4 2.4Ghz and a 128MB Geforce 440MX OEM (Dell 4550), that HP can't be any worst for that. If anything it should be marginally faster (The Celeron). If you wanna watch HD content, okay maybe that's not the laptop to have. Any AMD with the SB750 chipset (HD3200) will play HD without issue. You still won't get acceleration of Flash as no chipset currently supports that (that I know of) so Hulu won't playback smoothly full screen/streamed in HD. Anything else you wanna say its not good for? You're only paying $300 for it??? Last edited by Anthony Thomas; 11-07-2009 at 04:09 PM.. Reason: Errors |

But why pay $300 for it when you can probably get a laptop with a better processor for about the same price?

I'm a little upset I've missed a few of the tablet PC deals that have popped up recently.
But I really could use one for school. I'd want one that can run flash and photoshop, but no need for crap like gaming ability. Just something that can let me do art on, take notes, and won't break on me. Does anyone here think there's gonna be any tablet pc deals on bf? |

I think the best laptop deal this year had to be the Best Buy Acer for $329 in August, I was so glad I didn't wait to jump on that deal. I was initially going to wait until BF and hope my old laptop survived but I didn't have to! (and my old laptop died about 2 days later)
