Which side of the vote was bipartisan?
Mark my words - since this was the last, best chance for the (D) to get more people on the government dole, they were willing to sacrifice seats and a majority to get it - in 2010 there will be hell to pay for ignoring the will of the people. Please tell me - how do new taxes, fees for medical devices and insurance companies and increased coverage REDUCE costs? If government wanted to take over food distribution and said "we're going to increase taxes on trucking companies and packaging manufacturers to pay for it" - how would this REDUCE costs? It doesn't and won't. I wonder if Barry will say that he lied and resign when this monstrosity (or an incarnation thereof) adds to the deficit? After all, he clearly said that the healthcare bill he signs will "not add[ing] "one dime to the deficit.""

AYES NOES PRES NV
DEMOCRATIC 219 39 REPUBLICAN 1 176 INDEPENDENT TOTALS 220 21 Let me see here. (D): 219 for, 39 against (R): 1 for, 176 against. Of the "ayes", 0.45% were (R) and 99.55% were (D) Of the "noes", 18.14% were (D) and 91.86% (R) Yep I'd say 0.45% is "bipartisan" and 50.57% of the vote was a landslide. From what I can google (e.g. Cao Healthcare), the sole (R) vote aye was from Cao, and "Cao voted [co.uk] for the bill to save his ass, and one can hardly blame him. He represents a district that's 64% black and in which Obama beat McCain by three-to-one" (and which he won evidently because the (D) incumbent (the cash-in-the-freezer Willy Jefferson) was "mired in scandal [npr.org]" Or perhaps he was bought off: "Cao wants the feds to forgive $1.27 billion in disaster loans made to aid the recovery from Hurricane Katrina, and the Wall Street Journal reports the feds said they'd try to do that.") On the flip side, I'd bet that most of the (D) that voted no also did so to keep their jobs in 2010 and beyond. Last edited by Dr. J; 11-09-2009 at 02:18 PM.. |

Price of a healthcare vote for Queen Nancy? $128 million.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2...alth-care/ To get as far as the bill did so far, it appears the administration might have spread some money around. California Rep. Jim Costa was wavering but told a local newspaper last week that his vote could be contingent on getting some federal money for a new medical school in his district along with help for local hospitals. When a constituent named Bob Smittcamp e-mailed him to complain about his vote for the House bill, the congressman explained he'd been offered the dollars he was looking for -- $128 million in federal money. "He responded to me by basically saying that he did not like many of the elements there were in the legislation. However, he was able to procure $128m for the University of California medical school in Merced," Smittcamp told Fox News. And here comes the pork. |
