    Thanks BE,
If it is indeed a dead spot in the moter winding, how do I go about fixing it?
Do I need to replace the motor?
I'll look to Whirlpool for washers and dryers.
I'm also in search of a 36" free standing gas range and in-cabinet hood in SS.
Some of the ranges I'm looking at are Bertazzoni, Dacor, DSC, and Wolf.
My budget is under $8k. What would be a good hood to go with it?
    TIA
You would have to replace the motor and that is not very cost effective (for a GE) and kinda hard as you have to rewire half of the unit too.

I'm not sure of what you mean by "in cabinet hood". Could you please explain?

The dryer is working now. When it gives out, I'll replaced it with a Whirlpool or the like.
Regarding the range hood, I mean under-cabinet.
    Thanks.

One more fridge question for you:

I think this may be a winner for us! Any negatives to this model? I know it's one of the more "basic" Whirlpool models -- are there any important bells & whistles I'm missing?

thanks BE. I will be STOKED if I can snag this on tomorrow morning for $750 at BB. I'll try to add a 10% moving coupon to it. Only downside is this model doesn't have the "ice in the door" feature, but the next model up w/ it is $1300 (regular price). Too big of a jump.

    thanks again

Hi all, I have what I believe the problem of "water hammer" at a toilet shut off valve ..... I often get a "moaning" sound randomnly when the water is on at that toilet ....I have had the valve off for months and the moaning stopped ...when the turning the valve on or off , when the water first starts flowing it vibrates bad and is very load .... I've seen these "water hammer arrestors", but not sure which I should buy or how hard the install will be .... please note also that I plan on replacing this toilet as well and will be trying to fix it at the same time .... any advice here or product recommendation would be appreciated ...I have a pic of the valve coming soon

it looks like you replaced the toilet fill valve in the toilet already? if not i would replace that first. next would be the shutoff. the washer on the shutoff could have fallen off.. that would be my next step. chances are you will have to replace the complete shutoff.

im going with fluidmaster. if you do the toilet..do the shutoff also. if its a compression.. most times you can leave the nut and ferrule on the pipe

If it wasn't making noise before, and it started now, the rubber in the valve has expanded over time and as the fill valve tries to shut off, it starts to vibrate making a noise that you hear, similiar to blowing into a reed between your thumbs. Water hammer sounds more like someone taking a hammer to your pipe.

    Hi BikerEric,

What are your thoughts on the LG models posted here
    WM2016CW and DLE2516W for $700

I know that these have more electronics than the standard top loaders.

What is the average lifespan ? Is extended warranty recommended ?

I thought that Maytag appliances were now made by Whirlpool - is that not correct? The washer and dryer are the Maytag centennial "commercial" series.

Edit: Now I am more confused ;-) I looked at the Whirlpool web site and they say that both Amana and Maytag are Whirlpool brands. Is there a difference in quality between the different Whirlpool brands?

    Thanks.

I do not like LG as they are a biotch to get parts for. And very hard to get any tech support ( in english)
LG has not been around long enough to give you a good idea on lifespan.( all I know is that their other products are made to be disposable)
If I was forced to buy LG , you can bet I would have an extended warranty.

Whirlpool does own Maytag and Amana both
But Maytag and Amana units are NOT rebadged Whirlpools. They are their own proprietary designs.( and no where near the same quality or durability)

    BE,
I've got a Fridigaire SxS refrig that was built 4/97. It is slowly (over about a 1 week) warming up both freezer and refrigerator sections. Freezer is @ 20 degrees, frig is at 50. Coils were dirty but not too bad. Compressor is running and warm to the touch. Fan in the back is running. It seems to be running a lot, maybe all the time (I'm hard of hearing and don't always notice).
    Model: MRS20WRFD0
    Serial: LA71607050
    Nameplate says White Consolidated

Where do I start? I am very hands-on, so just point me in the right direction.

Update: The coils in the back of the freezer are frosted up badly.

Ok, turning the defrost timer manually over half a turn turned off the compressor and fans and turned on the heater. The heater eventually tripped off after the thermostat warmed up enough. After about 20 minutes, the compressor kicked back on and it seems to be cooling now. Timer bad?
