I felt okay with my first character (finished it Sunday) as a dual-wield rogue, but agree that the other melee party members went down super fast (with the exception of Shale and the war hound). And yes, at first I liked Sten because he didn't die quite as quickly as Alistair, but I get the feeling he's more suited to an "evil" play-through, if that. Tempted to just leave the jerk to rot this time around

I was also dismayed to get that message about the save files with DLC.
yeah bioware's excuse is shale breaks the game somehow, so its DLC lol

Shale is far more useful than any of the other tanks, IMO.

After playing through the Dalish quest line as a dual wield rogue I decided to reroll a mage. What a slog that was. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but this time through is like night and day. Also decided that Alistair makes a far better tank than dps character. Tweaking his stats accordingly this time around and he's now worth keeping in the line up.
Yeah, that's what my first run-through was, Dalish dual-wield rogue. I wasn't sure about playing a mage at first, but it seems to be going pretty well (only a few hours in).

    well.

2 dual wield melee fighter + (mage w/ flame weapon magic) = win in most situation.

Do you inferno with your tank in the middle of it? I haven't figured out how to inferno successfully yet, it takes time to get the inferno off.

I have Alistair (tank), Shale (DPS), Lelaina (archer) and my PC mage. Its so much easier now than when I started before with a rogue... but my PC mage is the one that seems to go down a lot (too little armor, trying to get arcane warrior soon).

Probably just have to tell them to hold their ground and control their movements manually while you're waiting for Inferno to kick in.
Though maybe there's just an option in the tactics I didn't see for "get out of the area of effect"

Kinda hard if the enemy is upon them even though they hold their ground... and the Inferno gets cast behind the enemy that has rushed up to them. I guess I'll pay with it some more and see if I can do better - doing better getting Grease + Fireball out there now.

The Arcane Warrior/Blood Mage is very fun to play. For those who played FFXI, it's like the Dark Knight, except it can be a very viable tank or damage dealer. I'm surprised Bioware would let us have the best of both worlds. Put up all your sustained spells and you've got a tank; take em all off and you've got a blood mage.

Can't wait til I get off work and play.

I started watching some of the video reviews and this game looks a lot better in motion than the screenshots. I would pick it up but I've got the witcher to finish first.

hows that game going, I bought it a while ago but only put in about 5-6 hours, the dialogue was just horrible and the plot makes very little sense, only reason to play was for the "cards"

TBH, it's on my backlog right now (I put about an hour into it when I first got it. I was going to play more but then the winter lineup put that on hold). I plan on putting some time on it this weekend. It's a little discouraging that you have criticisms against the dialogue and the story since I've heard that those are the strengths of the game.

I thought it was decent, but just kind of stopped playing after 20-30 hours.

Xbox360 Dragon Age: Origins discussion thread

What class is your character? Are you happy with your choice? Are you going to play through again as another class?

I'm a Duelist Rogue and am pretty happy with the character. (I haven't decided on my second specialization yet.) I think it may have been easier had I made my character a warrior. I am stuck using Alister as my main tank and he blows.

I would like to play through the game again although I doubt I will since it's such a huge timesink.

Overall I think this game is fantastic.
