Reading some of the beer reviews on BA. Some of these tools crack me up with how they write their reviews. Stop trying to sound so sophisticated! Who the F knows how a Juniper smells? LOL

Looks like my NYC trip is back on for Feb 28 through March 5th. I booked a hotel (Affinia) that's within walking distance of Rattle N Hum and Ginger Man.

i completely agree... they try to over exaggerate their review to sound sophisticated but in more reality they sound like a fool.

Juniper smells medicinal, but somewhat warming. Almost like pine or mint mixed with a very weak cinnamon. It's used in a lot of different everyday incenses. Or maybe the reviewer got mixed up & is thinking about the beer's similarities to the smell of gin, which has a multitude of spices, which juniper is a major component. I'm a bit more down to earth with my comparisons though. I'm more likely to describe a bad infection in a beer as being similar to lemon-lime Gatorade then Peruvian weasel vomit.

I do agree Mav, that reviews at times seem more like short story submissions to Reader's Digest, then actual breakdowns on the beer. I feel it should be the responsibility of the review not to get carried away with anything they want to express. The experience plays a part, but keep it real. Reviews aren't meant to be exact. That's what stuffy beer judges are for. Still, I'd appreciate something I can relate to without the writer bullshiting me to feed his petty ego.
