question: which desktop video card is equivalent to the ps3's?
will there be a difference in what kind of video card to compare to the ps3 in terms of it being a video card overall and in terms of its folding ability? that it may be a higher end card or lower end if we were to compare it in terms of its folding ability or as an overall video card?

Just wanted to drop in and introduce myself to the rest of the SlickDeals folders. I just recently started folding@home after learning about the Stanford project which I think is a great cause. With all the great deals I have found through SlickDeals, it was an obvious choice for me to join this team. Hopefully I can help a little and may have some questions in the future as far as tweaking some of my rigs for maximum gain. My love of working with computer hardware and building new machines combined with folding to develop a greater understanding of diseases sounds like a new hobby right up my alley!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.
I have a few different setups running at the moment. My largest PPD producer would be my 2008 Server (x64). It has an Intel Q9550, 8GB PC2 8500 RAM, Geforce GTX 260, on a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P motherboard. Main OS sits on a VelociRaptor 300GB 10k RPM hard drive, with 3 other Western Digital 1TB Caviar Black hard drives in a RAID 5 array. I'm just about finished setting it up, but it's meant as a test bed, and run some virtual machines in the near future. The other PCs I have folding are using the uni processor client and include my HTPC running on an Athlon 64 X2 5000 Black, my "main" machine on a Intel Core 2 Duo E6320, oh and my old server running on a Xeon that I'm about to decommission. I work in IT and have a lot of spare parts just lying around, so I wouldn't put it past me to put together a few Frankenstein PCs to do some extra folding. We will see...

Concerning power requirements, the newer PS3 architecture (the last year or two) has only required 115w, versus the original 200w. You're looking at about $0.15-$0.20 to power your PS3 for a full day, which is less than the $0.40 or so it takes to power your high-end PC under high load. If it was on a linear scale, the PS3 would end up netting you 10,000+ PPD. Not inefficient, very big difference. If you're using one of the original PS3s (20/60gb), then yes, it would be an inefficient use of power.

I am running -Folding@Home Client Version 6.23 - I have quit and restarted about 5 times already and it keeps giving me the same thing. I'm using a dell P4 1 gb of ram and radeon 9550. its and old set up, but it still contributes

![]() I have a funny one - didn't realize one of my VGA dummy plugs came unplugged, so Windows 7 lost the video card so the GPU client kept crashing - but every time it crashed, it would send a "partially complete" work unit back to the server. I guess 0 = partial. Check out how many WUs I reported at 6am! Time....Points....WUs 12pm....864.......2 ..9am ...1,858....5 ..6am....384.......51
