It's easy to compare. At minimum, all of the ones I listed had organzations pushing and promoting the rallies or marches or at least they came up with the idea and others took it from there.

The "content" of their protests isn't the issue. You raised the question about whether or not they were "grass roots".

The 9/12 was just as much a "grass roots" protest as was the Civil Rights march on Washington.

Actually, the video says "They came BY THE tens of thousands", not just "tens of thousands". There is a difference.

Glenn Beck started the 9/12 movement. It's hardly grass roots when your air time is during prime time America. MLK had nothing and literally had to speak at community events.

Where were these tea-parties when Bush was President? Hmmm..... So Obama is President for 8 months and he's the problem? That is freaken funny. I guess Bush gets a pass because he was a "conservative".

I do not like the fact that Obama has greatly increased the deficit but I understand that when you're on the verge of another great depression the deficit is the LAST thing that you worry about. The government has to step in because to wait for the economy to correct itself would be disastrous.

I was at this thing and I was also at Obama's inauguration and I can say that this 9/12 protest did not even begin to approach the crowds of the inauguration.

A few tens of thousands, maybe. I was actually flying my kite with plenty of space around me on the mall in front of the Capitol alongside a group playing touch football with no problems.

I did see one guy get hassled and possibly arrested by park police because he was carrying a gun.
