The Offical 2009 Samsung LCD HDTV Price Tracking Deal Thread
I have been watching prices on Samsung LCD's for a long time and I think I might finally pull the trigger on a 2008 edition. I decided to start a new thread as the old Samsung thread was getting rather long. Please take it easy on me, this is my first thread. If you see any mistakes, please feel free to fix them on the wiki.

I hope this helps people who are interested in the 2008 Samsung LCD line.

Thanks to caliber as he started the old Samsung LCD Price tracking thread and alot of what I did was mimic what he did.

Its going to take me awhile to get all the info up.

    SAMSUNG 2008 LCD MODELS
    ************************************************** ************************************************** ***************************************

    SAMSUNG "3" SERIES - 60Hz
The 3 Series represents the least expensive entry level offering from Samsung and features a 720p native resolution in the larger sets, with the smaller sizes acting more as computer monitors. Similar to the L4000 series from Sony, the A330s strip away most of the extra features found in the more expensive Samsung lines, allowing consumers to purchase an LCD from a "top-brand" like Samsung without totally breaking the bank. The step-up line is the 4 series which retains the 720p native resolution, but adds more features such as a third HDMI input.

Specification-wise the 4 series share a lot in common with the more expensive 5 series, housing the same number of HDMI inputs, supporting 3D display and picture-in-picture capabilities.

    GOLD BOX TRICK

To get a TV in your gold box, you can try this which works well

    • Sign up for a new Amazon account with a new email address. Use your real name.
    • Search for the TV you want (Example - Samsung LN32A450)
    • Scroll down until you see "What do customers ultimately buy after viewing this item?"
    • Click on the Samsung DVD-1080P8 1080p Up-Converting DVD Player.
    • On the Samsung DVD players page scroll down until you see "Rate This Item to Improve Your Recommendations" Check the "I own it box" AND Give it a 5 star rating.
    • Go to your Gold Box/Today's Deals.
    • If you are interested in other Samsung models, leave this Amazon account untouched and check your Gold Box daily. Amazon switches up your Gold Box daily.
(REPS GO TO ZNUTZ FOR THE ABOVE SUGGESTION)

    OR

You can log into your account, go to improve recommendation and make sure that nothing you have bought is used for recommendations. Search for the tv you want (Example Samsung LN32a450) and down the page you'll usually find a couple of Samsung warranties you can click on them and down the page you can rate them or just click that you own them. This should work to get some tv's in your Gold Box/ Todays deals page.

There are many variations on how to get certain things in your gold box, this is just a couple of ideas. (IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD YOUR IDEAS OR MORE EXAMPLES THAT WOULD BE GOOD - CWMICH)

How to compare 2008 LCD lines with the old models? Did not know the new LCD lines untill see your post.
LN52A650 vs LNT5269/71 (which I guess most people are familiar with).

I am getting pretty darn ready as well to buy....I really would have liked to get in on the TV + Free blue ray around Thanksgiving but I figured that the prices would drop more.....boy was I wrong.....I am not interested in paying $13 a month for Tivo HD DVR wich is actually gone now.

I don't know that the deal will come back with Amazon out of stock on the 1500 though...... Come on 850 with blue ray!!!

The current models look super - in the stores, in the home, and in the reviews, so you are not missing out if you get one now and start enjoying it. We don't know the prices and availability on the new sets - and all the new issues they will have with them when they come out. LED back-lighting seems to add a lot to the cost, so may only be available on the higher end sets and at a higher cost. The CES show is next week, so we may know more about models and prices after that.

If I were in the market and got a good deal on a current set, I probably would go ahead and get it.

This is truth man... I'm not exactly in the market (I have a 50 inch A10 LCD Projection that is about 3 years old that is still chugging along) but I would love a 1080p 120hz TV as my 1080p in my bedroom is not (Toshiba HL167)

I am not so sure that now is the best time to buy.

I keep thinking....There is probably a huge rush of people to buy HDTV's right now due to the Feb transition. Yes, I know that you do not have the buy one for this..but we all know it is probably having a massive effect on buying.

I keep wondering if this rush is pushing up the demand and the price.
That means as little as a month or two after March, the demand should drop enough to force some real discounts.

The deal clearly said "Offer ends December 29 or while supplies last" on the HD Tivo combo. Your net cost for the Tivo would have been $75 to $79 and you could have sold it new in the box for $200 easy - a net profit of $121-125. So while you were not interested in paying a monthly Tivo fee, you also passed up on an easy way to drop the price of the new set by $120 or so. The BD combo deals were probably the best time to have purchased, but some of the sets cost more at that time than they do now - many have similar prices, though.

I pulled the trigger from amazon for LN52A650 on 12/22 for 1755.55 with GB deal, latter when the price dropped I was able to get 2 PM, with a credit totalling 93.16, with a final cost of 1662.39, well under 1700 delivered. I am really happy with my deal and the TV, without this SD forum, I would't have any idea to get a deal, thanks to every one to share their experiences.

I think once the new models are announced at CES in 10 days, then we can get a better idea. My understanding is almost all of the mid-higher end models will do LED backlighting, and supposedly they use less electricity, in the range of 30-60 percent I've seen. That would be significant.

Only a small fraction of folks do not have cable or sat and depend on OTA only. The goverment will give each of those folks 2 $40 coupons and you can find boxes now for $40 + $5 shipping. You think these cheap skates that don't want a cable or sat bill that can get a nearly free converter box will be willing to pony up $1,500-2,000 for a new HDTV?

    I don't think so, Tim .

There will be a Super Bowl Party HDTV sales rush, I would guess, but I can't see folks running out to buy large, high end sets to replace the old analog OTA sets they have now. Not when a inexpensive box "fixes" the problem.

I agree with Dennis. However, even worse is that I've had coworkers ask me if they need to start renting Comcast digital or HD boxes because of the DTV transition. Only recently have I seen a couple Comcast ads saying nothing is changing for any Comcast customer. I feel bad for people who pay the extra $5-7/month for a box they don't need, for the rest of their Comcast service. Sure, some might be happier with more channels/on screen guide but the price increase from analog cable to digital cable + digital boxes... Good money for Comcast.

    EDIT:
Big ticket electronics (like sweet TVs) are probably high on the list of things people hold off on buying.

Oh, the LN52A750 has gone up to $2,014.98 on Amazon now.
