    Oil Change Tips
    1) Tie a rag around your wrist to keep oil from running down your arm when removing the oil filter.
    2) Cut the bottom off of an old and empty 1 qt oil jug and use top part as a funnel. Just save one from one oil change to the next, but make sure you keep the cap on it, or keep it in a gallon ziploc bag to keep all the dirt out of it!
    3) Use a china marker (sometimes called grease pencil) to mark wrench size for drain plug and mileage of last oil change on some non-engine part under the hood
4)Use a Sharpie (or the marker above) to write the amount of oil needed. I have it on one of the underhood stickers on all of my cars. No more greasy fingerprints on the owner's manual!

Great job, dude. Thanks for looking out for all us petrolheads and DIYer's.

Best deal to me is the OReillys 5 qts + filter for $9.99. The filter is made by Purolator and the oil is, I believe, Warren Unilube or Ashland/Valvoline (don't know for sure but one of those two are most likely). So good products for a great price.

The Pep deal of 5 qts of Castrol Synth and a Pure One filter is excellent even w/o their lame rebate. Pep stores just started stocking GC at 12 qt max inventory levels. IMO, GC is the best at-retail motor oil your money can buy, and the Pure One filter is very good. I personally can vouch for the combo in GM Vortec V8 engines; it's ideal for them. If I didn't have 24 qts of GC on hand I'd be all over this deal at $24.99. I never count on Pep's pathetic rebate program, anyway.

Don't change your oil at 3,000 miles. It's a waste of money and natural resources. Oil should be changed around 5,000 miles. Don't buy into that crap the oil companies are trying to feed us.

I Agree. and usually you can do a little more if you have full synthetic.

Most of the deals are either going on now or start tomorrow and expire June 7 according to the ads. They do sometimes last longer however. I'll try to update everything next week when the new ads come out.

Most newer cars (m.y. 2002 or newer) usually recommend an OCI of between 5000 and 7500 miles. My 2004 Subaru and my wife's 2002 Tundra have OCI's of 7500 but we still change the oil every 5000 unless we use synthetic. Synthetic oils can easily be changed every 7500 or more, especially the Mobile 1 Extended performance. However, even with that you probably don't want to go more than 6 months between oil changes if at least to just give your engine a once over to check everything.

the amount of oil used to do oil changes PALES in comparison to all the other resources that get torched in your car (specifically, the gas). PLUS, motor oil, if properly disposed, should be RECYCLED at your local oil change place or Kragen or whatever.

personally i think it's better to take good care of your car, thus extending the life of it, thus not having to buy another one sooner, for which manufacturing takes a big environmental toll, etc...

i do agree, however, that 5k miles is appropriate for synthetic. some motors (like BMW or Audi) can go even longer.
