Hi!
I'm trying to decide whether to go with the Sony XBR6 52 LCD or a Samsung 750 52 LCD... The specs are insanely close... anyone have any insight into pros/cons when comparing the two? One thing that makes me think Sony is the semi-matte screen, but outside of that I can't see much difference. Thanks!! |

I own a Samsung LN46A650 and wouldn't trade it for the world. I did a lot of research and found that the XBR6 series is great compared to the Samsung TVs but they are more expensive and unless you have the extra $$ you can't go wrong with the Samsung 6 or 7 series TVs. I would check the cnet.com reviews and then go to the nearest warehouse store where they can set up both TVs on 1080p so you can compare them and see what you really like. I liked the ToC on the Samsung TVs too, so the looks of the TV made me like it better too. The glossy vs matte finish is also really up to what you like and where you will have the TV. Prices are pretty good and should only get better in the next couple of months if you are not in a hurry to buy.
Good Luck. |

Instead of comparing XBR6 52 LCD with Samsung 750 52 LCD. Compare XBR6 with the 850.

Both are around the same prices online. As always, the XBR is slightly more, but if you do your homework and are patient, you can always score it for a decent price. Personally, I much prefer the matte screen. It's also important to keep in mind, some people have reported relatively high gaming lag times with this year's Sammy series'. There don't seem to be as many widespread panel problems with the XBRs as there are with the rest of the Sony lineup. Do you have a Magnolia near you or anything? I would say their showrooms are among the truest (and my god, the most expensive) if you're looking to gauge the difference between two sets. Full disclosure: I have a Z series, which isn't all that far removed from the XBR6 and I am very happy. To be honest though, I'm sure I would've been just as happy with the 6/7/850 Sammy series as I am now. |

I compared the XBR and 850 series. From some video I love the 850 series but in other videos I think the XBR provides a better viewing for my eyes. Yes, I think the Sony are better made products and product supports that's why you pay the extra. I'm still debating between the two. I think it all comes down to better pricing for me now.

I purchased a PN50A650 (Samsung Plasma), I did not like the image retention in the plasma. I switched to the Samsung LN52A650 to alleviate the problem. There were some dead pixels, so I exchanged it 3 more times. After the third 650 I made the upgrade to the 750 again for multiple (more than 4) dead pixels. All purchases were made at BestBuy. My 750 has 3 stuck pixels that I cant repair, and the XBR6 is on back order so I cant get it. My darn return policy ends on the 26th. My question is does anyone think it is worth going without a TV for a few weeks for some dead/stuck pixels?

To OP, either set will be great once you get it home and set up, and I think in this case it boils down to matte/glossy screen and $$$/$$. Wait for the next slick deal on one or the other and get the cheapest one. (I don't own the Samsung but I do have the XBR6, but I got it cheap. Had the Samsung been cheaper I would have purchased it.)
