This is a confusing thread; no linkage... We are all friends and family; your family knows other families and friends and so down the list of almost 7 billion people on this earth. It's confusing but friends of friends and family of family has ought to know IBM or someone who works at footlocker for their codes.

Hmmm I never had a bad experience with them... in fact I thought they were more diligent than expected, they sent numerous update emails after my computer was ordered and one confirming if I received it... I'd recommend them

This deal is pretty good, though the black friday deals through the student website were better, at least for my t400 configuration. Not by much though ($1418 vs $1461).

Lenovo's credit department BITES. Big Time. If your shipping is different than your billing, then you're more likely to reach nirvana than get a computer from lenovo.

Matters are made even worse when you have an idiot megolith company like Bank of America handling your credit card. They mark everything as fraud, and getting those two companies to work together is like getting the right of return granted to the palestinians.

excuse all the metaphors - i'm hoping my frustration can be better expressed through them than by lots of exclamation points. Lenovo would be out of business if they didn't make (inherit) good computers.

XP doesn't cost extra. Comes free. Just check the "XP Recovery Disk" radio button. $0.00.

How does this compare to other deals that come out for Thinkpads? I'm in the market, need to know if I should jump now or wait.

I just sold my vostro 1500 which I got as a slickdeal back in Feb/March. It served me well, however, I'm looking for something relatively fast and much more portable. With the friends and family discount I found this SL300 configuration for $444.35 shipped:

    Intel Core2 Duo processor T5870 (2.0GHz 800MHz 2MBL2)
    Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic
    13.3" WXGA LED Backlight
    NVIDIA N10M-GE1 GeForce 128MB
    1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)
    UltraNav without Fingerprint reader
160 GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer
    No Bluetooth
ThinkPad 11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter III
    4 cell Li-Ion Battery

I like the build quality of the Thinkpads I have used in the past, and the 13.3" under $450 is appealing for someone who mainly browses the web, researches, writes papers, etc. Anyone have any experience with the SL300? Thanks in advance.

    Brandon

It's hard find much information on the Nvidia N10M-GE1, but the fact that it is $145 less than intel's integrated graphics makes me wonder. Is it a price mistake or is it a really terrible graphics card?

I am wondering which one is better: IdeaPad or ThinkPad?
Thinkpads are on the higher end of the spectrum in Lenovo's lineup. They are built with better components, sturdier and thus more expensive than the Ideapads. In Dell terms, it is similar to the Vostro/Inspiron (cheaper) vs XPS/Latitude. The latter using better components and higher end. I still have very old Thinkpads (T21 and T41) that are still functional despite being banged and dropped throughout years of usage and travel.

IMHO, this is a warm deal at best. If you need one right NOW, then it is a decent deal (better than paying MSRP). If you can wait, i definitely would. Lenovo comes up with pretty good discounts once in a while but you have to be fast and vigilant to get in the deals.

How low did the T-series (esp. T400) usually go? 20% max? Thanks.

the G 105, G 110, etc are replacement for the 9xxx M line of chips, basically the same, but designed for lower power consumption, etc. I don't game, but the PureVideo aspects of the Nvidia chips entice me, so if the price drop is actually there I'll take it.
