It's hard find much information on the Nvidia N10M-GE1, but the fact that it is $145 less than intel's integrated graphics makes me wonder. Is it a price mistake or is it a really terrible graphics card?
yeah same thing baffles me too

Vista sucks... what's the timeframe / MS's stance on upgrades

Thank God! Vista sucks! ... and I'm no newbie to os's... pretty much an expert... and Vista requires an expert to keep it running... had nothing but problems w/my media center... Great concept, works great when it works, but between the video drivers always crashing/hanging, and explorer never wanting to let you do anything in the file system (they extremely degraded the performance here... even w/the tweaks to get it running better)... any idea when it's coming out and what MS plans on doing for those they hosed w/VISTA...

the G 105, G 110, etc are replacement for the 9xxx M line of chips, basically the same, but designed for lower power consumption, etc. I don't game, but the PureVideo aspects of the Nvidia chips entice me, so if the price drop is actually there I'll take it.
If the N10GE1 is more powerful than the 9300 then this is a very slick deal and most definitely a price mistake, but I can't find any real specs online.

XP doesn't cost extra. Comes free. Just check the "XP Recovery Disk" radio button. $0.00.
Chocula (or anyone else), I don't see this radio button. Could I be missing it or doing something wrong? If I could get it for free, I would rather have it than vista, but the only option I see is adding $60+ to get Vista AND XP. Thanks for any help in advance.

I don't think they are more powerful than the 9300 series, just they are designed for lower power use.

I've been looking to replace my current 14" laptop with a new 14" and the recent deals on this site have not had what I want (Core 2 Duo, HDMI, Nvidia graphics), until now, so i think I'm going to end up getting this:

    ThinkPad SL400 Series - 1Year Depot
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5870 (2.0GHz 800MHz 2MBL2)Operating system: Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic
    Display type: 14.1" WXGA+ AntiGlare
    System graphics: NVIDIA GeForce G 105M 256MB
    Total memory: 2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)
Pointing Device: UltraNav without fingerprint reader
Hard Drive: 250 GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
Optical device: DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer
Integrated WiFi wireless LAN adapters: Intel WiFi Link 5100 (AGN)
    Estimated total: $539.12

Hopefully no issues running Linux on it.

I just sold my vostro 1500 which I got as a slickdeal back in Feb/March. It served me well, however, I'm looking for something relatively fast and much more portable. With the friends and family discount I found this SL300 configuration for $444.35 shipped:

    Intel Core2 Duo processor T5870 (2.0GHz 800MHz 2MBL2)
    Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic
    13.3" WXGA LED Backlight
    NVIDIA N10M-GE1 GeForce 128MB
    1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)
    UltraNav without Fingerprint reader
160 GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer
    No Bluetooth
ThinkPad 11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter III
    4 cell Li-Ion Battery

I like the build quality of the Thinkpads I have used in the past, and the 13.3" under $450 is appealing for someone who mainly browses the web, researches, writes papers, etc. Anyone have any experience with the SL300? Thanks in advance.

    Brandon
I get this for $425. Seems like a very slick deal for a 13" thinkpad.

    Really Funny Quotes of Frustration

Quote from countchocula View Post :
This deal is pretty good, though the black friday deals through the student website were better, at least for my t400 configuration. Not by much though ($1418 vs $1461).

Lenovo's credit department BITES. Big Time. If your shipping is different than your billing, then you're more likely to reach nirvana than get a computer from lenovo.

Matters are made even worse when you have an idiot megolith company like Bank of America handling your credit card. They mark everything as fraud, and getting those two companies to work together is like getting the right of return granted to the palestinians.

excuse all the metaphors - i'm hoping my frustration can be better expressed through them than by lots of exclamation points. Lenovo would be out of business if they didn't make (inherit) good computers.

XP doesn't cost extra. Comes free. Just check the "XP Recovery Disk" radio button. $0.00.

Muthaf#*&# Lenovo just pulled the discounted N10M-GE1 videocard option (anyone else seeing this?). Everytime i was about to pull the trigger on the 13.3" SL, I would have to run to another meeting so i missed out. :-(

Wonder if they will honor the purchases already made with the N10M card.

Yeah, they took out the N10M-GE1 option after I already bought one (was going to maybe get another). Also if you live in California make sure they don't charge you the Recycling Fee twice. Call them up if they do and they will credit your card (system glitch). This is what I ordered:

Just a note, I convinced my friend to buy a Thinkpad and due to cost savings he picked the SL500. Needless to say, it arrived with significant keyboard flex, sticky keyboard syndrome, glossy lid and the pre-installed OS ran like a dog. Literally it would take 30-60 seconds to open a browser Window.

Lenovo had loaded so much crap on it, Windows Vista business was unusable. The feel of the laptop was closer to an R series and felt more like a consumer grade laptp then the business sleek I'm used to. Just a note, the SL series uses a mixture of components from Ideapad and Thinkpad. It is a hybrid between the two and not the same as a Thinkpad. In addition, SL series uses ideapad firmware for those that care.
