    Sony Reader 505 for $205 at SonyRewards.com
SonyRewards has Sony Reader 505 for $205 for members $216 for not members this week (Regular price is $299) sounds like a good deal to me. With Sony Card offer price would be $55 or $155 (see Wiki below).

I have read that this isn't very good for PDF files. Once there is a good PDF ebook reader available for around $200 I'll get one.

where? it shows as 29,995 pts for me. also, can you buy sonyrewards points? is this $205 with credit card sign up? if so, not a very good deal at all...

UPDATE: I found the link you were talking about, but it shows $216 for me. Also, I don't think you need a Sony Card to sign up for Sony Rewards. This is definitely a good deal, even at $216.

Just an FYI. There's many good, free converters out there than can covert PDF's over to the Sony format. They work well and (while not perfect) are pretty good.

Can't recommend the 505 highly enough. It'll truly change the way you read....

They read PDF's just fine. The problem is that a lot of pdf's have far too small of font size, and there are only 3 font options on the PRS-505. If you are going to read a lot of PDF's, get the PRS-700, it also features touchscreen and a built in reading light for $399 retail. For PDF flexibility, it includes the same font sizes as the PRS-505, as well as 2 larger sizes (great for people who normally need large print books), and it also has a variable zoom function and you can drag the PDF around like if you were using the grab function in acrobat. If you want to test it out, I know for sure that a lot of Borders book stores have them on display. Just bring in an SD or Sony Pro Duo card with PDF's on it and put it in the reader on top.

Hope this helps =) That is a great price on the 505 though.

Tempting but I'm holding off buying an eBook reader until they just accept major formats natively (CHM, PDF, TXT, RTF). With the way things are going, I won't be surprised if we're talking another 5yrs.

with the available firmware update, the 505 does natively support pdf, and rtf

    i think also txt.

    chm is a dead format.

    Close. $229 introductory.

You probably won't find a better outfit to implement a .pdf ebook reader than Foxit.

I'd be on this in a minute if it will support .prc (Mobipocket) format.

The problem is there are a lot of promised do-it-all ebook readers but no real products to show:

Thanks for the info. Picked one up for $212.50 after shipping. Was hoping the dark blue one would be on sale too, since I like the look of it better, but this was too good a price to pass up. Thanks!

According to my research, the PRS-700's screen doesn't have better contrast than the 505. In fact, the 505 screen is better than the 700 because SONY added a useless touchscreen feature to it which makes the text appears "foggy". I mean how hard could it be pressing a button to go to the next page? Why do you need a touchscreen on an e-reader? Shouldn't Sony be concentrating on improving the screen instead of putting illogical features? I was thinking about getting the 700 but after reading about the bad screen, I'm incline to get the older 505. Until I read that the 505 doesn't do PDF files too well due to only having 3-level of font size adjustment. Plus I HATE Sony customer service. You will hate it too when you try to deal with them over the phone. Don't believe me? Call them if you have an hour to waste Many people who did the double the mall giftcard value promotion recently did not speak highly of the B&M store manager either. No wonder SONY is not doing so well lately. Better wake up SONY or else you will be another casualty of this crappy economy with your inflated prices and bad customer service.
