Looks like a good deal to me... but I will rather wait a couple of months for the plastic logic reader... :-) google it.
Looks cool, but did you see the time it took to turn a page? 2 seconds by my count. Also, I like big screens, but they need to sell more than one size, that one would be great for newspapers, but not exactly for someone who enjoys books. I've heard many complaints that eReaders such as the sony or kindle take away the pleasure of holding a real book, and that one is going to feel even less like that. The commercial is also misleading, as the product is not actually flexible, just the screen (which is made by E Ink lol). Also, one week battery life is just as poor as the Kindle. Have fun waiting until 2010 =) only a couple of months away right.

Is there a way to add something else (cover with reading light) so as to make the total more than 299$ to qualify for the cashback.
Sony does sell an overpriced leather cover with reading light for about $70 IIRC. If that's not enough, pick up another cover or AC adapter and fleabay them.

I used it for half a year and really like. Even it is a bit slow when ready memory card I can live with that given that there are so many free texts on the internet.

Are you talking about the readers from Sony or Plastic Logic?

So I haven't gotten a shipping confirmation from Sony yet. Does anyone have any experience with Sony Rewards and know if they do send a shipping confirmation, or if it will just show up in the mail one day?

...The biggest plus on the Kindle is the ability to buy books wirelessly, and internet access...
Sorry, for me, the biggest plus for the Kindle, in the fight between these two readers, is the price of the books. Most books are 3,4 or 5 dollars more from the Sony Store than the Kindle store. Some books are MUCH more. Take for example this very popular Stephen King book, The Stand.

On the Kindle it is $8.99
    LINK [amazon.com]
On the Sony it is $35.00!!!
    LINK [sony.com]

How many books will make up that original price difference of the reader? Not many.

    Just my two cents.

The only problem with that is that you can buy the books elsewhere if you think they are too much money on Sony's website. With the Kindle, you are forced to buy from amazon unless you get the book in a txt or pdf file.

I'm not disputing you at all, in fact I didn't now that. Do you know of a place where Stephen King's The Stand is cheaper than the $8.99 for the Kindle?

Sorrry but there are way toomany digital book sources for me to search for that. but just for kicks I searched on that link provided by Inessence and the first library listed, brampoton I think, had it available for rent online in a pdf, which means you could use it with either reader.

man i cant believe i missed this deal... wanting a ebook reader and the sony at 55$ would have been a done deal for me....

was wondering if anyone did the 150 instant credit cc offer deal off the 216 or 205 deal of the week and got their credit as the terms say sonystyle store including sony style.com... purchase of 299 or more to qualify (but doesnt say anything about sonyrewards.com)...so i assume you would have added the leather case and light and maybe an adapter to get it over the 299 qualifying price....???

anyone know when sony might do this deal of the week again for the sony reader...
