If you're still looking, the Philips brand with an iPod dock (only for iPod classic 30 gb, 60 gb) is awesome for that very reason. We've had one for a few months, and it works perfectly in a car if you put it between the seats. I put 10 movies on it, so the hassle of putting DVD in and wear 'n tear on the DVDs are minimized. The battery life is only 1.5 with a DVD, but it is greatly enhanced wit the use of the iPod for flights. To my knowledge it is the only main brand with an iPod dock. Fry's has it for around $125. I've seen it on the web around $100. This is the link to the new model of the series (While I don't know about the quality, the iPod dock is hidden, so kids can't kick or hit it. This isn't a problem with us, since we have angels as children.)
