what is with newegg and their sudden explosion with router sales this week? (not that i'm complaining )

really want to get this... ddwrt works, but search the ddwrt forum before flashing... the default ddwrt bin that the website gives you might break the router...

should i wait for a ddwrt compatible wireless n router with usb port?

I called my local store and read them the sku and asked how many they had, they said:
"let me see here...ok, we've got three of those...uhhh..hmmm..wait...no. I was ummm looking at the wrong thing...we don't have any...click" and they hungup. Some service!

I would say yes. I just bought several WNR3500's from the past sales. Don't get me wrong, they are great (I have them bridging two local gigabit networks of two computers each), but I wish now that I had waited for a router with a USB port.

Like this one. [geeks.com]

however, that one is not DD-WRT compatible, but it has a USB port.

Can someone confirm this router fully works with Tomato? I used dd-wrt a few years ago and while it's more feature rich, it definitely had issues. I had since switched to Tomato for the last couple years and have been very happy. However I am approaching the point where my network needs have outgrown G, so it's time to retire my WRT54GL.

If anyone has suggestions for a N router that works with Tomato, I'm all ears.

Not for Tomato I guess. From its FAQs
http://www.polarcloud.com/tomatofaq

What will this run on?
Linksys WRT54G v1-v4, WRT54GS v1-v4, WRT54GL v1.x, WRTSL54GS (no USB support)
Buffalo WHR-G54S, WHR-HP-G54, WZR-G54, WBR2-G54
Asus WL500G Premium (no USB support)
Untested but apparently works without changes: SparkLAN WX-6615GT
Note: Most WRT54G and WRT54GS (not WRT54GL) sold in stores right now are the v5.0+ variety and will not work with Tomato.

Sorry for the original typo on the front page (fixed now). This router only supports DD-WRT, not Tomato. Just a heads up. FWIW though, I own this router and DD-WRT is very stable on it. I've tested it as a wireless bridge, repeater, and AP and it's stable in all three modes.

The USB port can either be used to set up an external hard drive as Network Attached Storage (NAS) or to plug a printer into so you can use the printer wirelessly from all of the computers on the network.
