I'd posted my HDTune test results in an earlier thread.

My five Hitachis have been OK so far. I run a full "chkdsk /r" when I receive them. No errors on any drives over the short six months I've owned them.

The rebate form says "Only valid on purchases made at: Channel Wide". Does this rebate really apply to this deal?

I am not certain about the answer, but I think it only means "retail channel wide". Don't think "Channel Wide" is a retailer name.

The combo is dead i think. There is a western digital combo though. It's about 10 bucks or so more all said and done.

If you don't mind multiple rebates and have not used eBillme $30 rebate, you may consider buying

THERMALTAKE ST0005U + WD Caviar Green (black is $10 more) WD10EADS 1TB SATA II 7200 RPM 32MB Buffer

    $34.88 +$89.99 -2.5%(Bing) -$15 (TT rebate) -$15 (WD rebate) -$30 (eBillme rebate) from ZZF.

A little work, but worth it for an infinitely better drive.

I have been tracking my Drives for some time now, and I noticed that that some of those had a Min of ~42 I think it was...LOL I have older PATA drives that 42 is the Max (non-burst speed), some older 40Gbs that have trouble reaching that even.

I wouldn't put all your eggs in Windows CHKDSK because it's not very thorough...
I have a battery of tests I run hard drives through before I feel fairly safe they aren't going to up and die on me prematurely. I sometimes include CHKDSK if it's an external that has a poor chip in it that doesn't publish any information (no SMART) etc, SpinRite sometimes has trouble with these bad chips (but so does every other HD Software, so I can't fault Spin Rite).

    1) Using Seatools, WD Diagnostic or you can use Hitachi / Samsung (et al) run the
DST Short / Long test, then Run the Short / Long Generic Test
    2) Use WD Diagnostic tools to write Zeros to the drive (has to be a slave or external to do that in Windows and obviously you wouldn't want to do it to your main drive in DOS...
3)Spin Rite 6.0 - Level 5 - (much more thorough than Windows CHKDSK Repair)

You can also run HD Tunes Error test since you already have that. Some times I find a few bad sectors right off the bat or later down the road, so at that point I'm thankfull I run HD Sentinel in the back ground. It keeps a history record of all the SMART events, it is by far the BEST HD monitoring program I've ever seen! Windows should have that data Front & Center, it wouldnt' save them all, but i've had drives die that the only message I received was from the BIOS and by then it was TOO LATE!

Yeah, I wish I had seen this at ZZF first! I asked but no one answered me about how Ewiz ships it's BULK / OEM hard drives? Whether its like the bubble wrap unacceptable way that Newegg does it or how ZZF/Amazon ships them?

It meant to say that the rebate is valid for across all the channels - radioshack, fry's, best buy etc. Refer promotional offer details from ThermalTake at
    http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/TtN...ebate.aspx
$15 rebate is the for the e-SATA one that you are intending to buy from this thread.

HITACHI is DEAD. Although more better ones are there in the combo deal. Check out Western Digital or Seagate ones each of 1TB but the problem is U need to pay for shipping $12

    received or even shipped yet?

I got in on this deal early Friday morning, and it still hasn't shipped - shows as 'in wharehouse' still. Has anyone else either received this yet, or at least seen that it has shipped???

    Folks,

Mine showed "In Warehouse" since ordered.

Called 408-934-2500 @ 2pm CT and was told the things will be shipped out today and will be notified with tracking #.

Will see what happens for today.

Will be my first AND last thing to do with this sucker (In comparison, my son's enjoying his 20" Acer LCD ordered on Jul. 5th from Staples right now for 2nd day in a row).
