Seems to be some interest in how this card compares to its 1GB sibling.

Check here [anandtech.com]; it's got everything you want to know.

Price now shows 129.99 without coupon.

Tax in california...If I were you I would wait for a 1GB version of either 4870 or 4890. I currently have a 512mb version and I regret not getting the 1GB.

Meh. IMO, not so much in FPS. maybe 5%ish difference, but if playing a hefty game like Crysis or Far Cry 2, you'll notice some texture popping or shortened rendering distance. I.E. Rendering distance meaning if you use a scope, you might see enemies/objects that aren't even rendered at all in regular view. with the 512, u might see some slow (1-2 second) load times from when the screen first initializes, then finishes loading all the textures. I use a 512 GTS 250 which is a lil less power and I'd say I'm 90% satisfied with it. Only because the 2 aforementioned games use lots of volumetric, shading, and post-processing effects that even $300 cards can handle. I tinker with the settings so I still get the rich detail of the new lighting, shadow and physics effects, and still pull off about 40 FPS. With AA, I get (v-sync enabled)
    60+ FPS
All the Half-Life 2 series Maxed out
    Unreal Tournament 3 Maxed Out
Command N Conquer 3 Maxed Out
    Sacred 2 8X AA
    Fallout 3 only 4X AA
    Oblivion Maxed out
    Doom 3 Maxed out

    No AA
Crysis (All High Settings, No AA, Max Volumetric, Shader, Shadow, Post-processing)
35-42 FPS depending on environment. Very playable
Far Cry 2 Maxed out, no AA I run from 25-75 FPS depending on environment.

My $.02. Got a lil carried away. Hope you like what u get.

Depends on the resolution you run. A 512MB card might do fine at 1680x1050, but can chug in certain games when you go higher. 1GB makes a huge difference gaming at higher resolutions.

    Dual Slot

I wish this was not a dual-slot card so I can fit it in my Shuttle XPC. Oh well, the 8800GT is still doing the job and I'm not into Crysis or Far Cry 2.

Appreciate your $.02. I have the same card and was pondering picking up this deal. I think I'll wait until Fall before purchasing a new card. Any recommendation for upcoming "must have" video cards this year?
