DEAD: Get $250 in free gift cards with Chase Sapphire Preferred card
UPDATE: Chase has replaced this offer with a 15000-point offer and added annual fee during the first year

Please note that this offer is different from the recently posted Sapphire Card $100 offer because this is a different card, Sapphire Preferred Card. With this offer, you should remember to cancel the card within one year to avoid paying an annual fee, unless you have other reasons to keep the card.

According to this page [chasesapphire.com], the card points can be redeemed for Ultimate Rewards, which means that you can get $25 gift card for 2500 points (or $250 for 25000), see more details here [chasesapphire.com].

    Chase Sapphire Preferred Card [chasesapphire.com]

    Bonus rules: [chasesapphire.com]

    25,000 points after first purchase

You will receive 25,000 bonus points with this bonus offer, which can be redeemed for a round trip ticket on most major airlines up to a $312.50 value. Ticket value exceeding $312.50 can be charged to your new card. A service fee of up to $20 per ticket may be charged for the use of our toll-free number to book or change airline itineraries. Redemptions made online do not have a service fee. Cardmember is responsible for any airline or government-imposed fees. You will qualify for and receive your bonus after your first purchase/first use of the card. First purchase/first use includes purchases, balance transfers, or any checks that are used to access your account, and excludes cash advances. After qualifying, please allow 6 to 8 weeks for bonus points to post to your account. This one-time bonus offer is valid only for first-time cardmembers with new accounts. Existing cardmembers/accounts are not eligible for this bonus offer.

Thanks goes to iCardBonus.com for reporting the deal!

Right now there are problems with the Ultimate Rewards site in redeeming your points for a check. The error message reads: We were unable to complete your request System unavailable. Please try again later.(error 9999) Members have contacted them via phone and email to get their points redeemed.

    Quote :

You can redeem your points for 5x$50 checks 24 hours a day by calling 1800-610-5676 aka Ultimate Rewards Redemption Center.
The card is still available by phone call with 25,000 points and waived first year annual fee at 1-800-730-9710. since they have changed the on line offer this may disappear soon also.

CAUTION: Make sure that you apply for a new card - there is an "upgrade" option which will NOT earn the 25,000 points

Title of post should be changed to reflect that points can be redeemed for cash: 25,000 = $250

    Rewards Check
Use points for a cash-back rewards check starting at 5,000 points for $50.

You can check the status of your a
pplication by calling Chase at 1-800-432-3117 > press # > press 1 > enter your SSN. or 1-888-338-2586 to be directly connected to a customer service rep, this is also the credit department.

    ---

This thread is getting out of hand with talk of FAKO scores and other misinformed statements from folks who have absolutely no clue what goes into a real credit score, such as a FICO score.

    How do I know this?
Because a "true FICO Score" (the only real score used by banks, credit card companies, etc) is based up a proprietary formula that no one here at SD's knows.

There are only some general guidelines that FICO (Fair Isaac Corporation) scores are based upon and they can be read directly at this link titled "Understanding Your FICO Score" [myfico.com].

If someone tells you their score is above 850 - that person is telling you their "FAKO" score.
A "FAKO" score is a credit score that was created by companies other than Fair Isaac Corporation (I.e. FICO). FICO scores do NOT go above 850.
Other companies (mostly the 3 large credit bureaus) came up with their own credit scoring formulas to generate business for themselves from folks that don't understand credit scoring (kind of like those who post here).
Believe me, your bank, when evaluating you for a loan only cares about your FICO score - no other scores matter.

You can get your FICO score and it is available to you, for a cost, from Fair Isaac Corporation.

If you are a true Slickdealer though - you can get your FICO score for Free by signing up for a FREE 30 day trial to "Score Watch [myfico.com]".
If you forget things frequently and can't remember to cancel your membership (or to cancel a credit card after you get a $250 bonus) within the 30 days - don't sign up for this.

    Quote :

    About your 30-day free trial
You will not be billed unless you decide to keep Score Watch® beyond your 30-day free trial period. Your credit card information will only be used if you do not cancel prior to the end of your free trial – you can cancel online at any time during your 30-day free trial. A week before your 30-day trial expires, we will contact you via email to remind you that your paid Score Watch® subscription is about to begin and your credit card will be billed at the annual subscription rate of $89.95.

So, in closing - if you get this credit card...cancel it before the year is up and you will not be charged the annual fee.
If you are responsible with credit, opening and then closing this account after you get your bonus is not going to cause your credit score to drop 5, 10, or 30 points (no one knows what the formula is). Any drop in your score will quickly rebound by your continued responsible credit usage.
If you are the type of person who is not responsible with your credit - don't even bother - you've got enough issues.

    Quote :
    <question from i_am_amused >
If "no one knows what the formula is", then *you* don't know what the formula is, so how can you make the absolute statement that "opening and then closing this account after you get your bonus is not going to cause your credit score to drop 5, 10, or 30 points"?
    </question>

    Quote :
    i_am_amused,
I did not make any absolute statement about credit scores dropping 5, 10, or 30 points - I was only paraphrasing what others had stated within the thread of what would happen if someone opened and closed an account.
In other words, I was using the sentence to point out that no one knows how much a score will drop based upon an inquiry or by opening/closing an account.

As a side note, I've participated in most of the credit card SlickDeals that have come by SlickDeals over the past few years (Citibank Diamond Preferred Rewards, American Express Small Business, Sony Cards, Marriott Cards, Charles Schwab, etc) and closed them all down within 4 months. My FICO score has generally moved between 792 and 805 during that time. I carry no balances nor carried a balance in the past 10 years - why my FICO score moves - I have no clue, nor does anyone else!

If you really want to know more about credit scoring (including REAL & legal ways to fix your credit score) - then I suggest that you do some reading at the forums at FICO Forums [myfico.com]. There is some great reading up there about credit scoring and repairing your credit. One idea I read about there was how folks can negotiate with old creditors to pay off their bad debts and to also negotiate in to the deal to get that bad credit history removed from their file - it might not be the most credible thing in the world but it's an option up for negotiation and legal.

$95 annual fee after the 1st year.

Plus, when you look a the compare between the regular card, and the preferred, it states:

    Regular:
10,000 bonus points good for a reward worth $100

    Perferred:
25,000 bonus points good for a roundtrip airline ticket or hotel stay

.... so I wonder if the bonus points can only be used for travel.

Hmmm. I seem to remember the $250 reward for Chase Freedom several years ago having the same stipulation and that didn't stop me from getting the bonus. Wonder if that'll fly this time around too.

Alright... instant approval. Guess we'll find out in 6-8 weeks...

When they say "first-time cardmembers with new accounts" they have to mean this card specifically and not any Chase card right?

I don't have the answer to your question. Sorry. But you surely have placed your finger squarely on the right question.

I, for example, already did the Chase Sony deal a few months back. I cleaned up on that one to the tune of $200, free and clear. I doubt Chase is going to welcome my returning to take them for another $250. I mean, they are stupid, sure. But they can't be that stupid.
