even better is that the promo is also $2 each bag, in case you don't want to buy 5 bags to get the discounted price (saw it at Home Depot yesterday)

Hi all,
Just wanted to you know that cypress mulch is not the best choice environmentally. The mulch does not come as a by-product of mills but from cutting down the whole forest and then chipping the trees up for mulch. The trees grow slow, so the trees that are chipped might be 70 years old but are too small for lumber and it will take another 100+ years for them to be large enough for lumber.

Please use pine bark or some other such thing. This is you tax dollars, as YOU are spending billions to save Louisiana's coast and then wasting that money buying mulch made from the trees that protect it.

Just do a quick google search if you actually care.

A better alternative would be to use rubber mulch. Made from recycled tires, it lasts for 7 years or more. HD has Vigero [homedepot.com] for 8.97 per .8 cu.ft.bag while Lowes has a better rubber mulch made by dupont [lowes.com]for 11.97 per .8 cu.ft.bag. The slick dealer in me asked Lowes to price match home depot at 8.97/bag with printed advertised price in hand. The guy called the manager and he said he was in such a good mood that he would do it this time. I have both types of rubber mulch (red). I must say that the mulch from Lowes is much better. It looks more like wood and is guaranteed not to fade for 10 years! Good Luck

Rubber mulch can be a pain if you have kids or pets. The mulch gets into the grass. Just FYI

This deal sold out the first day at my Home Depot.

Rubber mulch is a ripoff and looks like crap anyways. Lets see, 5 bags regular mulch or 1 bag of rubber....I think the choice is obvious. Thanks OP!
