Who the hell thinks its courteous to have a THREE HOUR GAP between your wedding and reception!! The wedding was at 2 and got over around 3. The reception does not begin until 6. Good thing I only live ten minutes from the church, so I can go home, but what are relatives from other states supposed to do for three hours? In suits and dresses no less!
Are you sure there isn't a cocktail hour in between? our friends got married at 2 and reception was at 6 but there was a cocktail hour before the reception started so by the time we left the church and got to the reception cocktail hour was set up.

when my cousin got marries, all of the wedding party got into a limo and did a quick pub crawl down main street.
    it was funny.
the bride forgot her id and we got denied admittance to one bar......
(of course it's not like wedding gowns have pockets)

It works just fine, I've been to plenty of weddings like that. On some occasions it's because of different locations. For example I went to one wedding where the ceremony was in the gardens at Central Park at noon, and then the reception was way downtown at a banquet hall at 6pm. SO a bunch of us went to a restaurant for lunch in between. In some cases, I've seen the gap happen at the same location where they both take place, and they have an extended cocktail hour.

It was the only option for us...7-12 at the city museum. And the cathedral only had a 10am, noon and 2pm slot.

Of course, everyone went sightseeing. I'd say only about 200 people were out of towners though.

This is hilarious and reminds me of what happened at our reception. The freakin bartender (the one that DH hired!) carded him! And DH had to go out to the car and get his license b/c he had a stoopid tux w/o pockets. And the guy said he did it to 'make an example' so that the 'guests wouldn't want to pull anything funny.'

Fortunately the rest of the catering staff was simply amazing! lmao

If it doesn't work out well at your first wedding at least you can get it right for the next one.

There was a two week gap between my wedding and reception.

Of course, we got married in Jamaica, and had the reception when we got back stateside.

Two weeks? What the heck did all your guests do for 2 weeks?

I hope they at least changed their underwear during that time.
