Code released prematurely, doesn't start until 10/8/09. May still work in store, and you should be able to call and have them discount 40% over phone. YMMV, see this post for more info

Keep in mind, prices at Borders may be (will be) higher than competitors like Amazon. Last time this %40 promo came up and posted on SD, I bought a book from Borders for $5 less than Amazon's non-coupon price. If you're thinking you'll be saving %40 what others are selling their books for, wrong. It's a nice tactic by Borders to get customers in their door.

For all of you who think that the 40% off any list price isn't a good deal, here's something to think about.
First, if your local Borders/Waldenbooks doesn't carry your book in stock, you can always order it online at borders.com and have it shipped to your local Borders/Waldenbooks within 3-8 business day at no charge. You'll get an email when it is ready to be picked up. So you end up paying 40% off the list price of one book plus tax on the net price.
Second, you'll get a better deal than most major websites online with the 40% off promo code. Take for instance Dan Brown's newest book The Lost Symbol (ISBN: 0385504225) which has a list price of $29.95. Below is the price of this book at several websites (bought brand new):
Amazon.com --> $20.16 (Book is $16.17. Shipping is $3.99)
BarnesAndNoble.com --> $21.96 (Book is $17.97. Shipping is $3.99)
Borders.com --> $17.97 (Book is $17.97. Shipping is $0 when shipped to Borders/Waldenbooks)
Buy.com --> $20.41 (Book is $16.16. Shipping is $4.25)
Overstock.com --> $18.50 (Book is $15.55. Shipping is $2.95)
Third, as mentioned earlier, you have the option to ship the book to your local Borders/Waldenbooks for free (using standard shipping) which eliminates the shipping costs. Keep in mind that shipping costs are a significant part of the total cost of the book, especially if you are purchasing a paperback book. Most online retailers charge between $3-$4 shipping costs when ordering a book.
Finally, I have bought several books at Borders and online at borders.com and have paid less than what was shown for the same book (in conjunction with the Borders/Waldenbooks 40% promo codes) at Google Product Search, PriceGrabber.com, Yahoo! Shopping, Bing Shopping, and several online book price comparison websites.

Sadly, I can't get the code to take on-line. I am a Rewards member, but I keep getting an "invalid code" message. The coupon states that it is single-use only, but the code doesn't seem long enough to be a single-use code. Anyone having any luck with it?
