    CVS Going Green
CVS is going green! They have a new card called Green Bag Tag for sale in their stores. (Likely found by the registers. It should be on your store's truck this week) It retails for 99c. It includes a leaf shaped scannable card that attaches to your favorite reusable bag. Each time you visit CVS and bring your reusable bag, they will scan your Green Bag Tag. The 4th time they scan your tag, you will earn a $1 Extra Care Buck that will print on your receipt. Wow!

Fine print on the back of the display the tag was on states:
"To earn Extra bucks for a transaction in store, your Extra care card, green bag tag, and reusable bag must be presented w/ purchase at checkout. Limit of one green tag use/scan per day per household. Every 4th purchase your ECB will print at the bottom of your cash register receipt as a $1 coupon good for your next purchase. Extra bucks can be used until the exp. date shown on the coupon...."

If you visit 4 times per week that is $52 per year, sounds like free money to me

99 cents buys you the tag, not a bag. You can use any reusable bag, reuse a plastic bag, or opt for no bag at all and they should scan your leaf.

Recap: All green cards have the same bar code. Green card can be scanned in back to back, multiple transactions for credits toward $1 ECB Post #29 Customer only has to bring any bag into store, cashier would probably scan card if you used no bag - the point of this program is to phase out CVS having to provide plastic bags ($$) to customers for their purchases. - From dodgeball

    Green Bag Tag FAQ
    1. Is the ExtraCare card required for Green bag tag to work?
    a. Yes, the ExtraCare card or using the customer’s phone number is required for Green bag tag to work. Green bag tag should be scanned LAST (after the ExtraCare card and items are scanned) in the transaction.

    2. Will Green bag tag work with the universal card?
    a. No. The universal card will not properly track a customer’s Green bag tag use. The universal card should not be scanned with the Green bag tag.

    3. Do I have to use Green bag tag with a CVS/pharmacy reusable shopping bag?
    a. No. customers can use any brand of reusable shopping bag. They can even re-use a plastic bag from a previous shopping trip.

    4. If a customer doesn’t use a reusable shopping bag or a plastic bag and just carries out their item(s), should I still scan their Green bag tag?
    a. Yes, scan customer’s Green bag tag.

    5. If a customer uses a reusable shopping bag and a plastic bag, should I still scan their Green bag tag?
    a. Yes. If there isn’t enough room in the reusable shopping bag and the customer needs an additional plastic bag to carry their items, they can use a plastic bag. Green bag tag should still be scanned.

    6. What do I do if a customer forgets their Green bag tag?
    a. Direct the customer to call 1-800-SHOP-CVS. Customer service will credit the customer.

    7. What do I do if a customer loses their Green bag tag?
    a. Direct the customer to call 1-800-SHOP-CVS. Customer service will issue an Extra Buck so the customer can purchase a new Green bag tag.

    8. Can customers use Green bag tag in the pharmacy?
    a. Yes, when a plastic bag is not used.

    9. How does Green bag tag work in the drive thru?
    a. Just like at any register.
    i. The customer hands you their ExtraCare card (or phone #), reusable shopping bag (or just hand the customer their items), and Green bag tag. A plastic bag should not be used.

It would take paying us to remember to bring in those bags.

Programs like this may get more customers on board. But, most won't bother since they don't have the time to learn what it's all about.

I'm not going to be able to check these out for a couple of days - do you happen to know if they code on each tag is the same, or are they unique? Just curious if they will be generic... I'm assuming they will be...

I always bring my reusable bags into CVS and the cashiers sigh and roll their eyes like it is such an inconvenience to have to put my stuff into anything other than their standard plastic CVS bags. Sometimes they just leave the stuff on the counter and wait for me to bag it myself! This will be a welcome change!!

I figure it will be generic but linked to cards instead,so if I visit 2 different cvs in one day I can use same bag but get credit for different cards.I like to take my own bags anyway for different transactions.

I work at CVS and I haven't seen or even heard of these until seeing this thread. It looks like a great idea to get people on board the "green train" and definitely a money maker for users. If I find them on the truck tomorrow, I'm definitely picking one up and I'll report back some details if I can dig anything up.

That is much better than the lousy .05 that Giant takes off for each bag you use!

Awesome! I always use my CVS tote when I shop, so this will just make it that much sweeter. $1 for 4 uses is 25 cents a pop!

I have about 20 reusable bags, some in better condition than others. Have been thinking about getting these [joeytotes.com]. Maybe Santa will bring me some!

Hate to get off topic but Walmart has a very similar bag for around $2. You may want to consider just heading over there. I had one until the dog chewed it up and I loved it. I'm planning on getting a new one tomorrow on my way to work and tag it with my green bag tag.

I go into CVS all the time and carry my 4-5 items out with NO bag all the time. Do I actually have to BOTHER bringing a bag in to get the credit???

I know what you mean, I do the same thing too on my small trips.

Oh, yeah. My granny and I carry veggies in our shirt on the way home from the garden. Instant bag, right!? Wonder if I could just clip the tag to my shirt tail for the credit?
