This can and should be used by you to post updated deal information.
Be sure to read this because it may contain answers to your questions!
i've been seeing these questions lately. so i will post some answers.

i got the similar model 42LH50 last friday for $699.

i have been encoding some video files using HandBrake [handbrake.fr] (the easiest transcoder by the way!) and throwing the files with different containers, video, and audio combination. the supported (that i have had to chance to try) are the following:

    containers: MKV (matroska), AVI,
    codecs: XviD, H264 (x264),
    audio: AAC, Ogg Vorbis, MP3

if audio format is not supported or for some reason can't play it, the video will play but a warning will be displayed that the audio cannot be played. if the video is not supported or unplayable in some way, the HDTV will crash and it will restart itself. this is not a good or a bad thing at the same time.

i have netflix and setting up netflix took less than a minute to setup. i have time warner cable with 4+mbps downstream and the video is as clean and smooth as a DVD.

i tried VUDU service to watch the free trailers in full HD. the trailer to disney's upcoming "a christmas carol" in full HD looked superb!! although at times it would need to pause to buffer, but that is likely to due the fact that i was seeding torrents on one of my computers. if it wasn't for the high price of renting/stream each HD movie i would definitely subscribe to the service.

finally, 3 weeks ago, i had gotten the LG 42LF11 from sears for $699 but i returned it because upon setting it up, there was a defect on the center of the screen showing a "halo" type of effect during dark scenes. also it had a serious audio lip-sync problem on HD channels only.
so far, i have NOT noticed any lip-sync issues with the LG 42LH50.

It's an awesome deal.... Costco, for example sells a 47" Vizio 1080p @ 120Hz for the same price. If it were me, I would definitely jump on LG.

I just got this unit from Fry's last month when it was on sale for $999. Great TV. Be sure to get the latest update from LG when you set it up. Netflix & VoDo work great. I still haven't gotten the network share to work - it won't pick it up from my Windows 7 Pro system. Great deal - $100 drop in 1 month.

I see lot of love for LG tvs now a days.
Looks LG is trying to capture samsung/sony's LCD mkt by lowering the price.

    Good deal for this tv.

Debating if I should cancel KDL-46V5100 from last weeks deal and order this for same price. On a second thought, I am only gaining 1 extra inch of LCD screen and some fancy netflix stuff which I don't really use. Sony would def be better or comparable quality than LG.

You are right, but the issue can be fixed either through firmware or via external speaker.

I heard the USB port doesn't play video files, is it true? If it does play video files, does it support mpeg4? can someone verify?
