I've been searching for a Nikon D40 ever since target has been clearancing them, but every target I've been to has already salvaged them all. It's a shame, as the prices were anywhere from $124 - 315. I've called a billion walmarts, the local malls, best buys, etc. No one has this camera anymore. Well, one best buy did, but they were selling it for $459, which is something I am not willing to pay after seeing the D40s sell at target for so cheap...
Ebay seems to be the closest I can get to a good deal, but even then, it's still a little much on this slightly outdated camera. I've got a trip coming up with a friend, and it would be wonderful to get back into photography + have a camera for the trip. Also, if any SlickDealer has one that they're not wanting, let me know... ![]() Edit: Forgot to mention that I'd prefer it to be a kit / has a lens included. Anyone know of anything else? Edit: How did you even find that listed at B&H? I tried finding it manually but the only Nikon D40 that shows up is a brand new one. That used one isn't even listed, haha... Weird. Last edited by Melee54; 10-28-2009 at 01:03 PM.. |

edit: Wow! There's a refurbished one in NJ for $179. I've got a friend over there (The same one I'm planning the trip with!), maybe she can check it out for me! edit again: Nevermind. It was just a single display case body, no lens, no battery, no charger, no lens cap thing, nada. Not worth it

My friend Doug is a professional photographer and, after seeing his pictures with his more pricey $5000 Nikon, I wanted one. The camera is NICE. It is very light and feels balanced in your hand. I have a camera bag for it also, and the original box/instructions/cd's that came with it. The most $$$ you should spend on a camera is in the lens. Mine has a good zoom, but wanted to save up and get a better zoom lens. The reason I am selling it? My wife. She uses the point and shoot way more, and I must admit that I grab the PAS more because it's easier to handle and put in my pocket..... ![]() PM me about it. Here are a few sites that got me interested in the camera: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/.../index.htm and www.dougphillipsphoto.com Doug has an awesome talent that "gets the right shot" |

I had one of the most frustrating experiences today. At searsoutlet.com I found a bunch of these D40s marked as reconditioned. I called the nearby ones, but the employees all said "Um sorry man I can't find it anywhere, it probably sold out." (Argh, but the website says your store has one left!). Then, I decided to call one far away in CT. Got a friend who could pick it up for me. Complete kit for $199. It took me One hour and 15 minutes to get through to the electronics department. I must have complained to "over 9000" employees and finally got through. Gah! Then, I told the guy about the camera and he said "Alright lemme check" ... *2 mins later* "Can't find it anywhere. I looked where da camera's waz at but I aint seeing it nowhere. Checked da clearance case too and don't see nuttin." So... I wasted an hour and 15 minutes worth of AT&T minutes for nothing...
So frustrating. Maybe I'll have to consider your deal more, "Deal?where?" haha... |

Do note the rule of thumb for a bargain hunter is to never call and find out - if there is only one left the guy on the phone probably bought it for himself than let you have it later if at all

I picked one up from via SearsOutlet.com from a Sears Retail in MA. Paid $300 for it - it's got everything except the strap (open box). Let me know if you're interested...

Here are some of the excuses: "I sold this one yesterday, so this must be old" "Yup, a mistake on the website as we never carried this model" "Do you need a memory card with that? Actually, I looked up the wrong camera" As soon as I saw him typing something in the computer after he said "have a nice day", I went back to ask another question and guess what.....he was looking at the screen that said '1 in stock!' Then came the better excuses (the best one - "it's a display and we took it off the floor to clean it). Finally the electronic manager came over to see what was going on and I explained it to him..... Moral of story: 1 - DO NOT CALL 2 - The sales people will tell you anything if it's a good price so they can buy it (I finally saw rule 1 in person). I can't imagine what goes through there head if you call FYI - the camera I bought had the body, lens, and strap The best part of the transaction was when I was leaving, a bunch of sales people gathered to talk about the sale. I heard, "man, that was a good deal..I almost had it" |

This Morning I went to a few targets to check to see if they had the Canon XSi at clearance. I did find one Target that only had the Display model but it was not marked down yet. The sales associate told me to come back monday to see if the clearance would go into affect then. I then went to a target down the street from that one and they had a bunch of the XSi's but they were not marked down either. I then noticed that they had a Nikon D40 and it was on clearance for 174.99 I told the sales associate I wanted that one. It was the only one left so I purchased the floor model. He gave me every excuse in the book why I shouldnt buy the floor model but I knew he just wanted it for himself. When he went to ring it up the register rung it up for even less. The register rung it up for 122.41 after tax I paid out the door 134.43 for a Nikon D40. I was very pleased.
