Alrighty then!! Well that's helpful. I can get 10w of power into a 10,000W speaker (bet that just sounds totally awesome) and I can drive a 10W speaker with maybe 25W (ah hell let's get crazy and say 50W) of power from a 10,000W amp. This is definitely the best audio set up philosophy I've ever heard. Prolly explains why absolutely everyone is doin' it.
Rasterman knows what he is talking about. Wattage ratings for speakers mean little. They are a very rough guide to how much (short term) power the speaker can handle (if the receiver isn't driven to clipping). The distortion from a receiver that is clipping can blow a tweeter.

Another thing is that these multichannel receivers can't deliver their rated output into 5 channels simultaneously. A multichannel receiver rated at 100 watts X 7 will usually measure more like 60 watts into 5 channels simultaneously.

Yet another issue is that if you are using a subwoofer, by crossing over your speakers to the subwoofer at 80 Hz, reduces the demands on the receiver by 66%. That's the big reason people don't hear any distortion. It's the bass frequencies that demand power.

That has been a given since the dawn of mankind. EVERYONE knows about "clean power" and "it's not the over driving that blows a speaker, it's the distortion".
With all due respect, that info is for the playground.

You are absolutely correct. That makes the point that I didn't have the patience to make on an earlier post where I referenced the amp routing. The Elite does discretely put all the rated WPC into each channel simultaneously. (Read the specs.) The 1019 and 919 would operate similarly to the example you gave. That's why WEIGHT MATTERS.

For people that don't know much about pre-outs, don't worry about it. I don't know ANYTHING about pre/pro and I heard a lot of people brag about it so I went out and bought some quality pieces (lexicon lx-7, lexicon mc-12, with energy speakers set up). However, I can't justify the price on my pieces comparing to a receiver. Noted, I don't know anything about pre/pro though. Maybe my equipments might fit others better. If you're looking for pre/pro, you know what to do

I did ordered a pioneer elite receiver to come back to receiver.

How much power the speaker can handle is meaningless, what matters is how sensitive it is. You can run a 10W amp on 10,000W speakers, or a 10,000W amp on 10W speakers, both will work just fine.
The Kev Master knows that most people don't know that the Audio Note Ongaku Integrated Amp is only rated at 27w.

Yessir, I own the 23 and the 1018.

Maybe you should read the specs on Pio's website to see how the speakers are powered/routed by the amp. I own the 23 which is 18lbs. more than the 1019. So your reply is specious at best. This may only be an issue for those whose speakers can accept higher wattage. I have 4 speakers that are 500 watt per capable and 4 that are 250 watts per. The 1018 will drive that load much better than the 1019. Period.

Still I would have considered the less expensive 1019 had it still retained the pre-outs. But none of these AVR's are going to drive my speakers w/o amps (which I already own) and therefore need the pre-outs.

Just about any audio enthusiast worth his salt will agree, you want to set aside the lions share of your budget to good speakers. Or at least, as you herad down the upgrade path, good speakers should be your first stop.
that said, it doesn't make sense for some to limit yourself on the front end with an amp that can't drive those better speakers or doesn't have the capacity to connect a separate amp which can drive them. JUS' SAYIN'.

    `
The Kev Master is amazed that Pioneer has done away with the pre-out, which his older VSX-1017TX and VSX-D811S both have.

Not apple to apple Kev. Comparing $7,000 (equipments) to $400,000 (ferrari). I got your point though.
