I have MSDN membership and there's no download for this, I had Windows 7 LONG before it was released. Seems kind of wierd to me to offer it over some survey link.

    I'd stay away from this.

OMGWTF??!?!?!! do you guys even know what office 2010 starter will be?

it's a stripped down version with only word and excel (special limited functionality 'starter' versions).. it will be available to large oem's only for bundling, and it will be *ad supported* you guys are chompin' at the bit to get that [gizmodo.com]?

while free is usually good, it helps if the freebie is actually worth drooling over.. this one ain't.

    from http://blogs.technet.com/office20...-2010.aspx

As part of Office 2010 software that will be pre-loaded by the PC manufacturers on their PCs, we’re introducing Microsoft Office Starter 2010. Office Starter 2010 is a reduced-functionality, advertising-supported version of Office 2010, available exclusively on new PCs. Office Starter 2010 will provide new PC owners with immediate exposure to the Office 2010 experience on new PCs right out of the box.

Office Starter 2010 will include Office Word Starter 2010 and Office Excel Starter 2010, with the basic functionality for creating, viewing and editing documents. Office Starter 2010 will replace Microsoft Works, offering a consistent Office user experience, such as the Ribbon, with a simple path to upgrade to a fully-featured version of Office 2010 directly from within the product.

It hasn't hit beta yet, and they don't normally hit MSDN until beta.

It's too bad that it's not going to hit RTM code sooner. I've got a trip to Redmond in December and they usually let us buy software from the Microsoft store while we're there. Last time I was picking up Office apps for something like $10-$15 apiece. I think the most expensive thing I bought was Visio 20007 Pro for $30-$35 (normally retails for around $475).

Just a heads up, looks shady.
The only personal info I gave out was a Gmail address and some dull facts about my productivity software usage, so it doesn't seem like there is much to lose.

Ad-supported generally equals free. I just want to test it on a netbook because I only need limited functionality on that.

A: Of course they don't want XP.. it's a dead product at this point. It's two revisions old.

B: Until open office has FULL support for VBA, it's too limited for me. If you do any sort of repetative tasks in Excel, and you Don't know VBA, you're missing out.

Ad supported is fine....glad Microsoft is open to changing their model.

Just so long as the ads are not embeded into the Word documents I create.

What can I say? we're curious about what 2010 will be like. I wouldn't say we're "chompin' at the bit" for it
