This is so stupid. Anyone who would do this rather than having a lawyer do it is an idiot or an a**hole (the latter being the case if they don't care when they're family has to deal with a long, drawn out will contest when the form will inevitably proves to be deficient in some way).

or maybe anyone who has to have a lawyer to write an ironclad will is one who has a**hole family members. They often disrespect the spirit of the will and challenge on any technicality.

To those ranting and raving about how this is stupid and you should only be using an attorney - why? I'm betting the vast majority of SDers are in their 20's and 30's and probably don't need some ironclad will at this point. And because of that, SOMETHING is better than nothing. This is free, relatively quick, and it can be done from home.

Besides, here's the thing - if my family WERE filled with a bunch of jerks, they deserve to have fight. I'm dead, and if I truly believe they're not going to respect my final wishes, what do I care if it's a hassle for them? The only reason it might matter is if I have one or two that AREN'T jerks and I want them to have everything.

In any case, here's hoping it's so far down the road that I don't have to worry about it right now

definitely bettern nutin, at least you can leave instructions on how to dispose of your dead body.

For those who have lawyerphobia, and have modest assets, verifying basic will requirements for your state is not rocket science, and most likely an attorney's end result would just add some jargon embellishment to justify the expense.

My wife is an attorney. This kind of stuff is just scary. The problems that can arise with a will are many. Good to have a lawyer. Of course if it's yours you don't care...

It's especially scary when one's Opera browser has a pop up warning that indicates the encryption method on the site is outdated. That could be true or a quirk of the Opera browser but regardless, I don't recommend that anyone should submit personal information to a 3rd party site online. I even have my doubts about the US government using 3rd party tax filers rather than reprogramming the IRS site to allow direct filing. The same goes with state and local governments. I never could understand the farming out of such sensitive information to 3rd party online tax preparers especially when there are loads
of programmers working in civil service.

As someone with a financial degree, I have no problem with preparing wills using computer programs, but NOT ONLINE! I would even go so far as to recommend unplugging one's router or connection to the net while preparing it using pre-packaged software.

By entering the CNBC code again, you get another activation code. Do this multiple times and you have codes you can give to others to let them try out this online software. The downside is you have to see Suze Orman's Joker smile while the keygen is creating a new code. It is always good to get people to think about wills, you don't want to pass away intestate. Young people sometimes die suddenly, the news always has reports of four teenagers in a car who get into a fatal accident.

As to comments about letting a lawyer handle wills and trusts, all too true. But if you aren't planning to go to a lawyer, trying out this software can do no harm.

The key word is ONLINE. There's no harm if you don't supply personal information.
If Suze Orman or her manager(s), publicists, and marketing team were really on the ball with internet security, they would have just offered the software download for free.

For those who've actually filled out all the required information, what exactly are they asking for?
