Alright, let's see how well I can put something together here. Please read this entire thread before attempting.
Is should be noted that the E725 comes with any of SIX different wireless adapters installed. There's an Atheros, a Broadcom, three different Intel adapters and a Realtek (or at least these are the six adapters the eMachines driver page lists drivers for). I had already erased Windows by the time I needed to know what mine was, so I just did the easy thing (for me, at least) and took the back panel off, removed the adapter and read the model number off the back. You're going to want to find out what kind of adapter you have before you even attempt this, so please consult the Device Manager in Windows (or remove the back like I did - it's under the same panel as the RAM and there are two screws under a black plastic pull tab that must be removed to slide out the card) to determine what card you have.
I can definitely provide the information and file necessary to get the Broadcom working but I cannot attest to the other five. I take no responsibility if you decide to embark on this adventure and realize after getting it installed that your wireless card may require some time and effort to configure properly or may not work at all.
However, I'd be happy to help anyone out who would like to try to attempt to find the necessary information and/or drivers.
For starters, I installed iDeneb v1.3 10.5.5 on a clean wipe of the drive. I erased the partition and created a new one using the Mac Journaled file system. From there, I ran the install straight from the default settings and let it do its thing.
Upon initial boot, the "Welcome" screen started a three-window infinite loop. You could select your language, keyboard and tell it if you had settings to import, but once you did the latter, it would loop back to the language window. Some research had suggested that this is due to the next part of the initial setup being that of the network card. Since it can't install it, yet sees the physical hardware there, it errors, thus causing the loop. The way around this is as follows:
1) Reboot the computer
2) Press F8 (or any key, I believe) to allow you to insert a boot flag
3) Type -s and hit Enter
4) At the command prompt it drops you to, run the following four commands:
a) /sbin/fsck -fy
b) /sbin/mount -uw /
c) touch /var/db/.AppleSetupDone (note the period before the "A")
d) passwd root
5) Choose a password for root
6) Type exit and hit Enter
This will boot you into the GUI of the operating system. (If for some reason it doesn't, just restart the computer.) Congratulations. You are now running OS X 10.5.5.
Now then, this presents us with some issues:
1) The newest 10.5.x version available is 10.5.8, so an upgrade would be nice, right?
2) That damn wireless card isn't working yet.
3) My Taylor Swift album won't play! Where's my sound?! And finally:
4) Anyone else notice they don't have a battery meter? That's because you don't have it set up to show up on the Menu bar. And more importantly, even if you did, it would tell you there's no battery installed and not provide you with any power information.
So let's get to work on these.
1) In order to update to 10.5.8, you're going to need to download three separate update files. These can be found here [ihackintosh.org]. (The preceding link should not violate any board rules as the updates are freely available for download from Apple. These are just the versions that were adapted to install on the PC version of OS X without fudging anything up.) You're going to want to download the "Combo Kit" version of each numeric update and install them in order. As far as I can tell, you cannot go from 10.5.5 to 10.5.8, as the updates must be applied in order and done one step at a time (from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 to 10.5.8). These downloads are somewhat large (about 700MB a piece) so you may want to locate the filename for each on the download page and Google them for possible other download locations (as iHackintosh relies on Megaupload as its file host). In any case, download, install, reboot, install, reboot, install and reboot. Up to 10.5.8? Good.
2) Let's get on the internet now, shall we? First of all, download and install the AirPort utility from Apple [apple.com]. Now, if you draw your attention to the bottom of this post, you will see I have attached two files. The second will be used to get the battery functioning properly but the first will get us online. So go ahead and download the bcm43xx_enabler_0.5.3.sh.zip file and transfer that baby over to your Hackintosh system via that USB drive you ordered 27 of off of here last week. Double-click on it to extract the archive. Once you've done this, open a Terminal window. This can be found in the Utilities folder under Applications. Once you have the Terminal open, navigate to where you've copied and extracted the archive to (something like "cd Desktop" or "cd Downloads" would be my guess). From there type:
./bcm43xx_enabler.sh
and hit Enter. Follow the prompts until the process finishes and suggests you reboot. Do so. Once you've booted back up, you should be able to view and setup your wireless network via AirPort.
3) I don't know about you, but I'm jonesing for my Taylor Swift by this point. So head on over here and download this zip file [rapidshare.com]. (I tried uploaded to two files contained in it to this post, but it said they were too large.) Extract that on your Hackintosh to find two more zip files. Extract those separately and run the Kext-Helper program contained in the one. Drag the "AppleHDA.kext" file contained in the other onto the Kext-Helper window, type in the password you set up back when we bypassed the "Welcome" loop and click on "Easy Install". Follow the prompts, reboot when it's finished and fire up "You Belong With Me" when it restarts.
4) Now that we can see the home stretch, let's download the other file I attached and extract it. This is a slightly older version of PowerManagement.bundle that seems to have much better compatibility with 10.5.x. Now, open the explorer program in OS X (Finder) and navigate to "System/Library/SystemConfiguration" and you will see a bunch of .bundle files. Copy the PowerManagement.bundle file that's there and toss it somewhere safe (as you should always backup any system file you replace in any OS). Once you've done that, move the one located in the SystemConfiguration folder to the trash and replace it by copying and pasting the one that you extracted from the .zip file at the beginning of this step. Reboot. You should now be able to go into the power settings, tell it to show the battery icon on the Menu bar and not only be able to see it, but have it properly register your battery as existent.
Finally, it should be noted that you can now run the integrated Software Update program to grab (what is likely to be) a bunch of updates. If you installed all the way to 10.5.8, you can just download and install everything available without discretion. However, never download a version update (such as from 10.5.8 to 10.5.9. The reason for this is the updates available from Apple are the actually updates for Mac architecture. It will overwrite the files necessary to boot OS X on a PC and (for those of you new to this type of OS, at least) you will quickly learn what a kernel panic is. Always wait for the "hacked" updates that have been adjusted to run on PC before doing any major system OS update.
That all being said, you should now have a functional Hackintosh system. Hopefully I didn't forget anything and if anyone needs help, feel free to let me know. As I said, I'm no Mac genius, but I just researched all of this and did a bunch of trial-and-error, so at least this way I can hopefully save someone else some time. Enjoy your $300 Mac!

A.) Yes, this should be done immediately before any other configuration is completed. Most new laptops DO NOT come with a physical recovery disc. If your hard drive goes bad and this includes the recovery partition, then you will be SOL without these discs. The Default Factory restore size is 9.76GB (3 standard DVD media) The Applications and Drivers backup is 1.42GB (1 standard DVD media)
Two important things when creating these to DVD.
1.) Use the best media you can get. #1 Taiyo Yuden, #2 Verbatim, #3 Ritek are some of the top ones.
2.) Don't touch, move or use the laptop while creating these type of discs
Step-By-Step to DVD Media - 3 DVD single layer discs required
1.) Place your blank DVD media into the drive.
2.) Select the Windows Start Button
3.) Type or cut and paste "Recovery Management" into the search bar above Start Button
4.) The results will show up as "eMachines Recovery Management" Select this option
5.) Select Yes to the UAC warning
6.) Select "Create Factory Default Disc"
7.) When you are ready, select "Start"

Performing a full system restore
To perform a system restore to factory conditions using the Recovery partition, while the laptop is booting hit Alt-F10 to load the eMachines Recovery Management tool. You can then restore the laptop to factory software state.
Troubleshooting
For those who are having issues with the touchpad, uninstall the Synaptics driver that came with it and install the newest version from Synaptics website.

Common questions:
Q.) Should I make a backup of the Factory Default Restore and the Applications and Drivers?
A.) Yes, this should be done immediately before any other configuration is completed. Most new laptops DO NOT come with a physical recovery disc. If your hard drive goes bad and this includes the recovery partition, then you will be SOL without these discs. The Default Factory restore size is 9.76GB (3 standard DVD media) The Applications and Drivers backup is 1.42GB (1 standard DVD media)
Two important things when creating these to DVD.
1.) Use the best media you can get. #1 Taiyo Yuden, #2 Verbatim, #3 Ritek are some of the top ones.
2.) Don't touch, move or use the laptop while creating these type of discs
Step-By-Step to DVD Media - 3 DVD single layer discs required
1.) Place your blank DVD media into the drive.
2.) Select the Windows Start Button
3.) Type or cut and paste "Recovery Management" into the search bar above Start Button
4.) The results will show up as "eMachines Recovery Management" Select this option
5.) Select Yes to the UAC warning
6.) Select "Create Factory Default Disc"
7.) When you are ready, select "Start"
8.) Swap out the media to the next disc when it asks for it/or opens the drive
(Be sure to read the message, if it fails you will need to try it again)

A.) 1 year warranty from the manufacturer. Squaretrade also has extended warranties for 3 years. Normally on a laptop this price it is $49.99. However, I believe if you use the code WINTERSALE (until March 1, 2010) it gives you 20% off. So, final cost $39.99 *Use THIRTY30 for 30% off, so it's $34.99
Q.) How good is the performance of the T4400 Intel 2.20 Processor (Mavblues)
A.) Based on a scale of 0 - 1905, with 223 CPU's tested in the high mid range category, this scored a 1517 (seated #32 on the list). The highest in the high mid range category scored 1657. This places the laptop CPU in the top 15% best performers of this CPU range.
Q.) How much does this unit weigh?
A.) 6.17 lbs
Q.) How much heat does this unit put off?
A.) Almost none existent. It has a bottom mounted exhaust fan
Q.) Where is the ac power adapter input located for this unit?
A.) It is located on the left side of the unit, completely to the rear of the left side.
Q.) Does this unit have a webcam?
A.) Unit E725-4520 does NOT have a webcam.
Q.) Does this unit have a built in microphone?
A.) No
Q.) How much memory does this unit have?
A.) 3GB of memory, available physical memory 1.99GB (Graphics card is shared)
Q.) What type of memory does this unit have?
A.) DDR3-1066
Q.) How long does it take to restart?
A.) Around 55 seconds - 1 minute
Q.) What kind of keyboard does this unit have?
A.) It has a standard full keyboard, with a full 10 key set also.
Q.) What is the deal with the mouse/touchpad?
A.) The mouse/touchpad is NOT centered. It sits between the 25% - 50% area, off left center portion of the unit. The left and right click mouse keys sit flush with the touchpad. It uses the Synaptics software for the mouse/touchpad.
Q.) What type of CD/DVD drive does it have?
A.) Based soley on what I have on mine, it has a MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ890AS, 8X DVD-Super Multi double-layer drive
Q.) It says my hard drive is 250GB, why do I only see 199GB?
A.) Emachine has created 3 partitions. Full Factory restore - 12GB, Drivers and Windows Files - 101.98MB, and the main partiton 220GB

Q.) Does this laptop also beep when the power supply cord is plugged/unplugged from the unit?
A.) Thankfully, No it doesn't have the warning beep when the power supply is changed.
Q.) How far does the display fold back?
A.) The display will fold back to a completely horizontal position with the rest of the unit.

Performing a full system restore
To perform a system restore to factory conditions using the Recovery partition, while the laptop is booting hit Alt-F10 to load the eMachines Recovery Management tool. You can then restore the laptop to factory software state.
Troubleshooting
For those who are having issues with the touchpad, uninstall the Synaptics driver that came with it and install the newest version from Synaptics website.

If you reinstall Windows you need to reinstall the drivers to get full functionality back.

Has anyone been able to get Snow leapord running on this laptop??
@laracroft i also had a harddrive failure and they offered to send me a hard drive replacement( but i had to ask specifically for it from the tech support guy) and as for shipping they were going to send em a prepaid shipping label so it would be free as it was still in the initial 30days Last edited by docnas; 03-30-2010 at 08:36 AM.. It seems to me it's better for everyone when companies recognize a lot of their customers are competent enough to swap drives / RAM etc... The customer's happy because there's less time without their equipment and the Company is happy because it lowers their cost. Kudo's to eMach/Acer on recognizing this and taking this approach! Both this eMachines (Win7) and my Toshiba (Vista) kept knocking out the wifi connection or I had to restart the router half the time I turned them on. All machines running XP connected fine without issue. The Linksys router is fine (I didn't update to the latest and greatest firmware, but reading the update it didn't have anything substatial...I don't like update firmware unless it's crucial since I've read to many reports where the firmware updates turn hardware into bricks when they were running fine before). After several months of research online I narrowed the issue with Vista/Win7 and not the router or Broadcom/Atheros cards. Seems Vista and Win 7 had issues with the TCP/IPv6 that interrupts connections. I unchecked the TCP/IPv6 on the eMachines and have not had a dropped wifi connection or needed router rebooting for the last 5 days (i used to reboot every 1-2 days). So far so good, so try to go to your "Change adapter settings" and uncheck the IPv6 box to see if that helps. |

Removed info from laptop and installed windows 7 and followed instructions to install without a key. The certificate worked OK but cannot get the key to be accepted. Get the error: On a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0xC004F015' to display the error text. Error: 0xC004F015 According to what I have read on google links, this happens when The license has not been installed. However, the pop up indicated my license was installed ok. Have anyone else had this problem. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks Toots |

ah well just got my laptop yesterday from tech support and partitioned the drive installed ideneb like it was posted( then used easybcd to get it dual booting properly) got it running was able to update to 10.5.8 everything was looking good. then installed airport and that first kext as he described when i entered reboot in the terminal it froze so i powered off and then powered on the system and now it hangs during startup.
