Yeah that was the price I got. But the original price was already $8 something, not the full $9.99, so I didn't actually save 35%.

The so-called "KJMONKEY's Ironclad guide to domain registration" is a sure way to send GoDaddy lots of undeserved business. GoDaddy have all the grace and charm of softcore porno. After following the "KJMONKEY's Ironclad guide to domain registration" you will have spent way more than you need to for ten years of domain registration, forking $68.40 (before ICANN fees) over to the kings of sleaze.

Just transfer out after your first year to other places that charge a buck, too. No big deal.

Can you enlighten us on who charges a buck for renewals?

FYI, I use another service for hosting.
omnis.com which has a very clean interface for domain and hosting management.

For long-term domain renewals, going through godaddy is likely the easiest, cheap & no-hassle process. Just transfer over to your current hosting service for a 10th year renewal and you'll be all set.

dreamhost.com is also good if you want a good deal on built-in private registration & hosting.

ps. registrars don't make alot of their money on domain registration; the owner of the TLD gets the bulk of your fee so you just want to find a registrar that charges you the least. Godaddy makes their money on all those options that clutter your screen while you're trying to register. if anything, godaddy probably loses money or simply breaks even on domain registration.

Yahoo is offering $1.99 domain registration or transfers. This is great if you did the 99cent godaddy deals, but now need to renew. Simply transfer your domain to yahoo for an additional year at $1.99 and bounce it back to godaddy when another 99cent offer pops up.
