Even as a TiVo fan who has three of these (bought at launch) I would not recommend this unit for most people. They STILL haven't fixed the new menu system and it's sluggish and locks up, requiring a reboot when it does. You can set it to SD menus, which fixes most of the problems, but then you have a Series 3 with faster networking, which is ridiculous for most people. The website says the more-stable 14.5 software is rolled out, but this is a lie because only beta tester and early preview users (chosen by TiVo) have it. Most users are still struggling with 14.4 and have just turned off the new menus to aid stability. Even with 14.5 a large amount of the HD interface is unfinshed. This is FOUR MONTHS post-launch, and it's still not even completely uniform, let alone stable. Do yourselves a favor and wait a year to see what it looks like then.

Worst. TiVo. Ever.

Thanks for the update. Almost pulled the trigger to upgrade my HD, but I think I'll hold off for a while.

Yeah, there's no point holding your breath for TiVo to send out software updates - I waited 2 years for them to fix analog cable lockups on my TiVo HD, and the fix was switching to digital cable because I don't think they were ever going to actually fix it. TiVo "engineering" is a complete joke, so don't buy anything from them unless you read the forums first and see all of the problems you're going to face.
