these cards don't run for 120 on newegg...where does it run for that price?
just spend the extra 20 dollars and do something right he first time. you've been given good advice on this board.

    Just get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6814121291

or wait til this is instock. it's much closer to your price range.

if you get the GTS250 you'll end up upgrading it in a matter of months once you run into something it can't handle.

9800GTX+ is old name for GTS 250 they are the same.

    Those are both $80 cards.

    For $120 .. a GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 or HD 4870 1GB DDR5

The 9800GTX+ and the GTS250 are SLIGHTLY different.

I havent seen any benches to confirm it, but I've heard the GTX+ is a TAD bit faster... but the GTS250 only uses 1 6pin PCIE power lead.

    ymmv

Darn. Got an email back from Asus support asking about whether a 1156 bracket adapter for older heatsinks was in the works.

I specifically mentioned the Asus arctic square, but Asus heatsinks only use 2 different mounting systems. So unless they plan to alienate the better half of their selection, Asus heatsinks not designed for LGA 1156 will never be able to sit on an i5. Guess its time to ebay my heatsink :[
they'll just make new sinks with the socket adaptation.

    um no the GTS250 is a better clocked/efficient 9800GTX+
    Its a PCB-shrink and runs cooler/clocks higher.

    Switch memory save $5
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6820231277

Dont need such a huge PSU. Drop down to the 650.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6817139005

Maybe save some money on the case go with an Antec 300.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...-_-Product

Then take the money saved and opt for the i7 860 chip.

Will the 650W be able to handle everything smoothly and future add-ons? if i decide to go dual graphic card, light crazy, etc..

Also, if i go i7, do i need to change anything up?

More comments appreciated on the build.

Well if you do go SLI video cards in the future then yea go for the 750. However if you are considering this you might just be better off waiting for the new dx11 cards to come out and pick up one of the new ATI cards. I would wait until benchmarks start coming out. As for your other question, no you dont need to change anything else if you go for the i7 860. It is the older i7's that need tri-channel memory. The i5 750, i7 860, and i7 870 run on dual channel.

Yes, now may be a bad time to build a desktop... but what do you guys think of this Newegg Combo Deal [newegg.com]for a HTPC Build??? I doubt you'll get better value than this, particularly if you get lucky and can unlock the extra two cores!

After MIR and BCB it's around $232
Athlon II X2's are native dual cores, nothing to unlock, except perhaps it'll unlock to an unlocked multiplier(not 100% sure on it but i've read that its been done). Solid combo deal, but the ram is more expensive than neccesary, imo. i'd rather go with ddr3 ram(4gb for 80 shipped at newegg, its possibly cheaper elsewhere) for a completely new build as well- just a bit extra bandwidth and so on. No big deal, go for it if you want

Updated memory note to reduce confusion among non enthusiasts.

**Side note, Intel CPUs(pre i7 core) list FSB as quad pumped, meaning, the rated FSB of 800MHz is only running the memory at 200MHz. DDR2-800MHz will run a 1600FSB(quad pumped) CPU.

dunno. dvd burners were $20-25 for a couple years. all of a sudden they are $30 or more.
