ALIVE AGAIN! *April 2009* Get Out Of Verizon Wireless ETF For Free! New one (Not Because of Texting) *picture/video messaging*
Hey there! Want to get out of Verizon Wireless contract withou paying the 175 dollar Early Termination Fee? Here is your chance!

Verizon is raising one of their charges from 70 cents to 85 cents per month. It's some dinky charge, but use it to your advantage and get out now! Anytime they raise their fees you have 60 days to opt out. It's in the Customer Agreement (You can view it on their website. Just click on the "Customer Agreement" link on the bottom of the page. It's in the paragraph called "Our Rights to Make Changes" about a third of the way down)

Just call them, tell them that you heard they are raising the Monthly Administrative Charge from .70 to .85 and you would like to opt out as the Customer Agreement agreement lets you do.

It may take time, but be persistent. Just tell them you would like to cancel and that you have the right to.

Go for it. It worked for me. It took 52 minutes, but it was well worth the time.

I am also porting out to sprint. To do this you have to leave the account open. Just tell the supervisor that you want it open, but that he should note the account that when the port goes through the ETF should be waived.

He gave me his phone number and name in case any issues come up and the ETF does get charged

I quoted the relevant terms so you can reference them:

    Taxes, Surcharges and Fees

Tolls, taxes, surcharges and other fees, such as E911 and gross receipt charges, vary by market and as of January 1, 2008, add between 4% and 35% to your monthly bill and are in addition to your monthly access fees and airtime charges.
Monthly Federal Universal Service Charge on interstate & international telecom charges (varies quarterly based on FCC rate) is 11.3% per line.
The Verizon Wireless monthly Regulatory Charge is 7˘ per line.
Monthly Administrative Charge (subject to change) is 70˘ per line. Beginning May 1, 2008, the monthly Verizon Wireless Administrative Charge for voice and email plans will increase from $0.70 to $0.85 per line.
The Federal Universal Service, Regulatory and Administrative Charges are Verizon Wireless charges, not taxes. For more details on these charges, call 1–888–684–1888.

    Our Rights to Make Changes

Your service is subject to our business policies, practices and procedures, which we can change without notice. UNLESS OTHERWISE PROHIBITED BY LAW, WE CAN ALSO CHANGE PRICES AND ANY OTHER CONDITIONS IN THIS AGREEMENT AT ANY TIME BY SENDING YOU WRITTEN NOTICE PRIOR TO THE BILLING PERIOD IN WHICH THE CHANGES WOULD GO INTO EFFECT. IF YOU CHOOSE TO USE YOUR SERVICE AFTER THAT POINT, YOU’RE ACCEPTING THE CHANGES. IF THE CHANGES HAVE A MATERIAL ADVERSE EFFECT ON YOU, HOWEVER, YOU CAN END THE AFFECTED SERVICE, WITHOUT ANY EARLY TERMINATION FEE, JUST BY CALLING US WITHIN 60 DAYS AFTER WE SEND NOTICE OF THE CHANGE.

Thanks to Ladybuggs for the idea

Beginning Nov 1, 2008, the VA Gross Receipts Surcharge will increase from 0.082 percent to .1042 percent. This surcharge appears in the "Verizon Wireless Surhcarges" portion of your bill. This surcharge is our charge, not a tax, and is subject to change. Please refer to the "Our Rights to Make Changes" section of your Customer Agreement for Information about changes

    Verizon Not Helping You Out?
Refusing to Follow THEIR OWN Contract?
File A Report With the BBB
Go Here: BBB Complaints Submission [bbb.org]

Fill out the form and WAIT! IF nothing happens after a week or so, try again using this or another method.

Submit One Form For EVERY Number You Have!

READ BELOW BEFORE YOU GO TO THE BBB! THESE STEPS WILL GET YOU FURTHER IN THE CANCELLATION PROCESS!!!

I figured since a lot of people are getting the run-around from reps, I would outline my post again here so everyone can see it. I hope it helps...

As you witnessed, the administrative charge is not a tax or anything put forth by any governmental entity. It is a charge put forth by Verizon and Verizon only. This means that you have every right to cancel your contract within 60 days. DO NOT let them tell you that they have no control over the charge; this is a straight up lie!

DO NOT LET THEM TELL YOU THAT IT WILL NOT HAVE AN ADVERSE EFFECT ON YOU!!! I can not stress this enough. There is no clause showing you have to prove what the effect is on you. You just have to be firm and tell them that they have no idea who you are or what your budget is, and they have no right to tell you what is an adverse effect or not. DO NOT, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES AGREE TO FAX/E-MAIL/MAIL IN PROOF OF AN ADVERSE EFFECT! Not only is this almost impossible to prove, but it's just a time-buyer for the company. They figure most people will give up at this point.

If they try giving you the $0.15 credit, tell them that you will not accept this. DO NOT CAVE IN! BE FIRM FIRM FIRM FIRM! You do not have to accept the charge at all, by any means. Tell them you want to cancel your contract just like the contract clearly says you can. This is what they are legally supposed to do but they are drilled by supervisors to not allow the cancellation to happen. Be an A-hole if you have to. Sometimes it may take a little aggression to get your point across.

Now it seems like they're catching on and starting to lie to people. They figure most people don't know any better about what they are legally entitled to as a consumer, so they can lie their way into keeping you as a customer. DO NOT LET THEM LIE TO YOU!!!

If you got anything from my post, it should be this:
    • Any employee of Verizon cannot tell you what is an adverse effect to you. Call them out on it if they try and pull this on you
    • You do not have to accept the $0.15 credit! You have no reason to even agree to accept it! Tell them this. Don't say " ohh... well I don't want that... etc etc.", tell them "I do not have to accept this. I do not agree to this credit, I also am not required to agree to this credit, so this credit does not make a valid remedy to my original contract. I would like my contract canceled please.
    • BE FIRM! Sound like you know your rights and what you are doing. If you are stuttering and mumbling, they know they have you. This may sound harsh, but they know you have no idea what you are talking about. They will lie and tell you everything you want to hear to make you stay with their company.
    • Take the names of every rep you may talk to. Reference them to your new rep if you have to call back. Tell the rep you are tired of getting the run around and if it doesn't get fixed this call, you will take it to upper management and the BBB to get things cleared through. This looks really bad on their "recorded training" tapes.
    • Have the contract sitting in front of you. Look for clauses that negate whatever they are trying to do to you. Tell them things such as "I have the contract right in front of me, and it says nowhere that I am required to submit proof of personal adverse effect". This not only makes you prepared personally, but also makes it seem as if you have read over the contract and are prepared to throw it in their face if need be.

When we be getting our written notice of policy changes?

I wouldn't mind opting out and moving to t-mobile and taking advantage of their blackberry deals.

I personally left to go to Sprint to save money and get free data service. The only regret I have is with the cell phone I selected. I really hate Windows Mobile OS.

I am switching to Sprint. I will be paying less for more phones on the family plan. Works for me!

Also, the notices were sent out already. They knew about the change so you don't actually have to have the notice. Just say you heard that they were raising their rates. That's it

Just received a t-mobile Blackberry through my company. I really miss Verizon. None of the fancy gadgets or free data time matter when you can't connect, downloads are ridiculously slow and you miss calls because people can't get through.

Don't get me wrong. I wasn't "happy" with Verizon either. But you quickly realize what matters most to you.

When you cancelled your contract is it possible to keep your current number. I also want to switch over to Sprint but fear losing my number. I just talked to Sprint and they said they need an active account in order to port the number…..

iPhone is probably the only good reason to move to another carrier, but the copycats are close enough where there are good options to not go to AT&T. But anyone who did it now would be foolish to do it now, because iPhone2 will probably come by the end of the year and blow it the current version out of the water. As far as price vs. coverage, if you live in bigger cities, the coverage doesn't vary much. And I wouldn't rely on SERO because it's looking more and more like Sprint is going to be bought out because they are hemoraging money (SERO isn't helping them, all it is doing is helping them retain customers, most of them costly customers that don't make them profitable). Rumors that there are smaller carriers that want to compete with the big boys, and I'm sure AT&T or Verizon could be in the game too to dominate the market. FCC probably wouldn't allow it though, don't be surprised if tmobile makes some noise.

As long as you don't cancel your contract before you start the new one. Your new carrier will take the number from the old when you start your new contract and it will automatically cancel your old one. If you cancel in advance it's probably gone, possible could retrieve it but it would be a lot of headaches.

Verizon is the best, one of the greatest carriers.

See how my blanket statement holds no water?

An explanation might help. Perhaps its just your area? You work for Cingular? Maybe you had a bad phone or CSR. In any case, some sort of explanation really helps.

Personally, I hate the phones and the fact that they cripple everything they touch, but.... for me they provide the best service for the thing I use my phone the most for, calling.

So if you "opt-out" can you keep verizon but just no longer be under contract? Or you have to switch carriers in order to do this?

But when it then automatically cancels your verizon account will you be charge an ETF since you didn't talk to them and tell them you want to cancel due to the rate change?
